Are you sure it's the rear? when does the whine start? at what RPM, at what boost? need mods/driving style/etc... to be able to help. You need someone familiar with the AWD system, to help a bit better. all the RWD cars have problems in the "rear".

im pretty positive its the rear, ifs its not then its dead center of the car....this is under normal driving at any speed and any rpm above 1500....not even under any boost....its really hard to explain i mean it doesnt feel like im losing power but its just annoying and i know something is wrong

Did you check the fluid levels in you gearboxes? Take it to a good shop and see what they say about it.

Check fluids, and check the "center carrier bearing". I hear the driveshaft hit under the car in the "tunnel", it isn't a whine though. the only whine I got, was when the TC went out. I would first change the fluid in the diffs, and see if it is still there.

Try to have someone outside the car, and you drive by them, and let them tell you which end it is coming from. It could be the rear diff, but I haven't heard of many or any of them going bad. Have you put on any recent mods? last time changed the fluids? did you get this car new?

It is I believe between the front seats, under the car. If you jack the car up, and lay under the drive shaft, and push up on it, like you were bench pressing the car, you should not have Much play in the bearing. I had 1/2 inch of play between the bracket and the bolts on the center carrier bearing. (it is a round bearing, you cant miss it, it sorrounds the driveshaft).

very little play, to much play = vibration... vibration is bad

+1. I had TOO much play. center carrier bearings are 61.00, so it's not that bad.

No, I have my dealership do the work, I can see what that would entail. I actually tightened the bolts holding the center bearing, and the problem is now GONE, so I don't think i need to replace them now, but might anyway to add some "insurance". or is it assurance?
