Oil changes question
Oil changes question
So rule of thumb is to change oil every 3k miles. Out of curiousity there anyone out there that likes to change their oil earlier than 3k? For me I like to do 2500 miles.

fully synthetic oil is actually typically good for 5k-6k miles but it also depends on mods and how you drive the car. if you're not at the track often and such you're fine changing it every 4k-5k.
changing the oil too soon is just as bad as not changing it enough. imo changing it every 2500 is unnecessary and could cause harm unless you drive the car very rough/track it often. if you're driving normally (occasional boosting) you can do it at 4k or maybe even 5k if you wanna push it.
dude man im telling you just wait like a 100k miles then change it and if it comes out all clumpy and has some silverish stuff in it, that just means your car is running as strong as can be.

The big issues with our engine oil are: (1) the same oil also cools the turbo; (2) the volume of oil is quite low; and (3) the oil filter is tiny.
We have just 4 quarts of oil trying to lubricate, clean, and cool both a high-rpm engine and a white hot turbo...with an oil filter that's barely big enough for a lawn mower.
You need to be pretty **** about checking your oil levels and topping up as necessary. Even if you don't plan to change your oil every 3K miles, you'll probably want to change the filter. Changing the filter is already a messy job. As long as you're getting oil all over yourself, it's easy enough to go ahead and drain the oil pan at the same time. I suspect that's why most of us flush the whole system every 3K miles even though we could probably get away with just swapping filters.

I do mine at 2500 mi. intervals, using Mobil1 and a fresh
filter. If you wanna go 4000-5500 mi., then, if it was me, I'd at least change the filter at the 2500 mi. mark, and top it off with fresh oil. Just my $00.02. My reasoning being that perhaps the oil is still good but if the filter has been doing its job it may be loaded with particulate matter.

Anyway, saw this programme on TV. Basically, they were trying to show how indestructible Honda Cub's (those tiny old school scooters) are. They bought one like 20 years old, the owner didn't know it need oil change ever. Rode it around a bit then drained all the oil out the replaced it with used cooking oil from a restaurant. Started first time. The engine ran. Actually sounded better.
Then they threw it off a 4 storey building. It landed, bent both wheels. But stated second time. That's better than some evo I know of....
I typically do it every 3k, i don't think I went over. However it's easier to remember to change it ever 2500 miles
because it would be something like this: 10,000 12,500 15,000 17,500 20,000 It's all nice and even.
