No, all trim levels of the same year have the same power. Why did you think the MR had more HP? Ken, join us at RMEVO.com for Colorado Evos...

i agree. if the SE trim was available back in early 05 when i purchased my MR i would've been all over it.

do a little research buddy....since when does the MR have "better power"? All Evo IXs have the same HP rating...

Yea the SE is real nice, if it was out, I might have gone for that one, but I still like the full SSL package. Go with the IX "GSR" or SE. If you are going to change the wheels and suspension dont waste the extra money on an MR just for the 6-speed. Like most people said, its still weaker than the 5-speed tranny. Good luck man.

Is the SE trim still available? I can't find it on the Mitsubishi website, so would hunting one down be a lost cause?

Im confused. Unless you already explained this (because i really didnt feel like sorting through countless pages)...since when is the MR the lightest? And since when does it have no creature comforts? I think you got this backwards...ie, the RS is the lightest, next its the IX, and the MR is the heaviest.

I wrote MR? I was talking about the RS - not sure how MR got in there. Must have had it on the brain, since I own one, but I was definitely talking about the RS. MR is not the heaviest, though. GSR w/SSL is 50lbs heavier than the MR, but the MR is 22lbs heavier than the base GSR.

...good luck!!!

I first saw this thread and was like MR all the way, but when I saw this it made me think...I still say MR, but I like the MR because its sexy as hell!!!

Wow! As popular as the EVO is i was under the impression that everyone already knew the difference between the 3, ie everyone knew what purpose each provides. I guess i was wrong. It still amazes me that people discuss this topic...it still amazes me that some people are under the impression that the MR is the "best" one. People, the MR is not the best one...they each provide a different purpose. IMO, (its pretty much a well known fact) if you plan on tracking your car, youre absolutely crazy to purchase the MR...big waste of money.

I have to agree here... too little data. It all depens on what is considered "best" in this case simple becase "best" is spelled differently for each one of us. It also depends on what you want the car to do stock and later modified if you are going to modify at all that is.

Lets put it this way: The MR has several components that some people would want on their GSR, like the roof, the shocks and the 6-speed. If you think that you can and will uprade those components with something that will be better than what they are on the MR - buy the GSR. If you dont need those at all - buy the GSR. If you dont plan on changing those components but would like the ones on the MR - buy the MR. If you dont have the money to buy the MR - buy the GSR.

I wanted the alum roof. I was not planning to change the roof on the GSR. I wanted the shock tuning of the MR. I was not planning to upgrade or change my shocks. I wanted the 6-speed instead of the 5. I was not going to change my tranny. I wanted HIDs and i loved the BBS rims. I had the dough. I bought the MR. Thats what i did and people out there may make a different decision, after all we all have different needs. You have to decide for yourself.

Uhm, I think you swung the pendulum a bit too far the opposite direction. These so-called "well-known" facts you speak of are not the case. The MR _IS_ the best Evo available. The only way it's not is if you just have personal preferences that hinge around the SSL package or the desire to have no amenities whatsoever (RS). Having the Bilsteins, 6spd, BBS rims, and aluminum roof makes it better than the other models - that's just a fact. It is also not CRAZY to purchase an MR if you plan to track it. It is an AWESOME track car, as I have proven over the last 2 years. With the stock suspension, trans, and wheels, I have blown away so many cars while autocrossing and/or road racing, and these cars had coilovers, power mods, and fat tires. Just go watch my vid where I pass 3 Z06s in the same session. Yes, the 6spd is showing itself to be weak in gears 4-6, but it's still an awesome track car right out of the box. As a car that can be daily driven comfortably and raced easily with no modifications needed, it is an incredible dual-purpose setup.

I'll answer this. Since I juss went to mitsu to get work on a deal for my evo. If I had the extra few g's to drop. The MR is mine. Or if I can get a lucky deal on it. When u go to mitsu. Look at the evo's Appearence alone will tell u. Appearence alone makes the MR the way to go. I juss can't afford it.. But either way your gonna be happy..
