They replaced every part of the turbo system and it would still only boost 8 psi at about 4500RPM. Oh well, I'm glad it's gone.

Its harder.
There is NO such thing as a "safe level".
Reason #1:
Driving skill is the Most important factor in your driveline's lifetime. A great driver can take a 500hp monster and track/drag it often without failure. A kid who does not know how to drive can destroy the driveline on stock or worse power, depending on mods, with little or no effort. Read below for some more in depth answers...
Ok some brief conceptual ideas to remember here:
First off an AWD system is LESS forgiving about launches than a rwd,fwd unit. You have to remember you have an amazing amount of grip to deal with so clutch control is a MUST not an option.
Torque kills parts, period. You drop the hammer on your srt-4/camaro and sure there's torque going through the driveline but not NEARLY as much torque as is required to break the traction loose on those cars. Consequently all that torque in the driveline finds weak spots like transfer cases maybe even blow out a couple gears. Smooth power dilvery will make your driveline much happier and it will last..
If you want to blow up the tranmission quickly on an evo I'm told wheel hop is an excellent way to go :P As a previous fwd user you should know EXACTLY what wheel hop is since it bounces around from tire to tire trying to get traction as you lay on the juice. This quick loading/unloading apparently has disasterous consequences to your spider gears in the driveline.
There ARE solutions for people who aren't professional drivers and want to abuse their drivetrain. Depending on your budget, skill level, you can consider these sort of modifications to your drivetrain. Stiffer motor mounts will reduce wheel hop, lsd will also help. You can get a built transfer case and built tranny.
sounds like ull brake the tranny in this car too. out of the two of them the srt-4 tranny stands a better chance of not braking; now u got a transfer case to worry about.
pure player - make sure to find a upgraded turbo srt-4 to race. theres a shop called lujan motorsports in FL - u should race that guy and own that neon.
most of the time ur not at a track though so races happen on the hwy. suck it up - the srt-4 especially with a couple of bolt ons will tear up a lancer from a roll. no question about it.

Just get the Evo.....who in their right mind would want to have a neon
The evo is a awesome car......your friends only hate them bc there jealous they dont have one and they have a Dodge POS Neon

Dude get an evo......SRT's are kidna quick in roll but roll racing is gay! Furthermore, once you ge t aa MBC, TBE, Ecutek flash, etc......or 280 GSC cams you can forget about an SRT taking you in a roll.....even if they have stage 3 mopar or wahtever. I have never seen a stage 3 SRT 4 with toys run quicker than a 12.50 ( not saying they can't do better) I have owned every SRT I've ever raced....they were all from a roll too......
I agree about SRT owner truly wanting an evo....that's why they always talk SH**! The trannies are terrible and FWD has no traction and is sucks at hooking up. Not me.......so happy I was alteast able to buy an evo 8.

If you really want to make your friends mad. Do this. I did this and it made an srt4 owner get pissed. When your sitting next to the srt4...your friend...and they start reving at you..simply put your 2 back windows down AUTOMATICALLY..as you know, srt4s have manual back windows.. Its really funny how they react.. Get the evo...nothings better

If you do get the evo, you'll have to remember you can't slam shift it like you would a honda or neon. Smooth shifting is key. Be easy on that drivetrain and learn how to drive your car before racing/launching it. I don't race often at all, but when I do I BARELY ever launch it. Seeing as though most of the time I don't have to do that to win.

I wouldn't be too quick to say "its just a neon" because someone might respond "its just a lancer". My s2k eats srt4's from a roll... but I'm SC'rd and geared
. I'd never be dumb enough to even try an Evo from a stop, because while I might get a better trap speed... The race only last a 1/4 mile so it only really matters who got their first
.
That being said, I'm in the process of going back to stock on my s2k and will be buying either an Evo or Sti. I had an 04 Sti and it just annoyed the hell out of me (why i have an s2k, great car btw). But they supposedly fixed the things I didn't like in the 06-07's. But seriously, at this point the only reason I wouldn't buy an Evo is if they didn't have one when I'm ready to buy (temporary stopping of production and all that in dec blah)
And the 4g63 motor might just be the best factory 4 cylinder ever built, and that's coming from someone who hates mitsu (my last one was the biggest piece of junk ever built ...2002 eclipse gt)
Though the f20c on the s2k's are damn close second. Inline pro has a completely stock f20c running just a 3mm headgasket pushing over 500whp that pulled a 10.6 in the quarter. From what I understand honda put all forged parts in the motor to begin with... Go honda! The diff self destructed on their second pass though
