I was just thinking about all this last night before i even saw this thread..

well I bought a regual IX - why didn't I get the MR? well honesly I didnt think i could afford another 5K.

do I wish i had a 6sp? - no
do I wish my roof was lighter? - no
do I want fog lights ? - YES
do i want the vortex gen? - YES (but I dont want people to make fun of me)

BTW, is that stupid to get fogs and the vortex gen if my car is not an IX?...

anyway, I do autoX so i know the blisteins need to go, i also know that the 6th gear is nice for the highway only if Iam going ot cruise. Which BTW I love the 5th gear bc i allows for nice power to pass anyone i want instantly.

so in the end, i am glad I didnt spend the extra 5k because all the mods i want to make to the car so I "like it" will cost me 1500 (coilovers) + 200 (vortex) + ~700 (factory HID/fogs) = ~2000K

but I do have to be honest and say that the MR badge is sexy and so is the stock 6sp stick (okay that just sounded gay but you know what i mean, the alum and all)

Very good point. This is how I look at it after reading all the post and replies about this. I think that all of you out there that are really into street, drag or auto x and mod-fans prefer to go for the basic model. Why pay extra money for something that you will get rid of or eventually replace to a better state later on for cheaper, right?

On the other hand, those who just want an EvO to drive and not a die hard mod/racing fan will be content with the MR. Just my opinion.

Have you won your regional championship? If not, it may be a while until the MR suspension becomes the limiting factor, especially in Solo II. As you auto-x, I'm sure that you know a change in suspension will move you into a class with dedicated track cars where the completive level is significantly higher. Either way, good luck next season.

I considered this when I had a RS, but that's not all there is to it. In order to make the factory HIDs work as intended, one needs a $900 wiring harness. Then, there are the cockpit-controlled electric adjusters and their respective motors/mechanisms, as well as the switches and the factory warranty on top of it all. As you can see, it takes a lot more than $700 to duplicate the stock HID setup.

See this is what I was afraid of...a whole lot of in-fighting between people that all own the same damn car. I've seen it before and it's a real shame, especially here, considering the performance remains the same.

Some people will want to pay a little more for the shiny shiny, some won't/can't. Whatever version you got, you got it because you wanted it. You felt the price was right, the deal was good, and you got what you got.

I got the MR SE because I didn't want to sit around saying "Well I don't need HID headlights." Others may honestly not want them, others may not want to pay for them (and the other goodies), and that's their choice.

Like so many others said, just be happy with what you got--otherwise, why the hell did you get it? lol

There are no needs when you buy an Evo...its all wants. So why not get it all if you can? Need would have you get a minivan lol

I think the time I fell in love with the MR was about a year ago. I was on a deserted road and had an Evo IX MR rolling alongside me. Damn, just the look of it glinting in the streetlights, it's head/tail lights glowing, and that sinister whistle...*shivers* lol I fell in love with that passing in the night

This is how I look at things.

Is an Evo IX MR worth the $36k for the performance you get? Yes.
Is an Evo IX MR worth the extra $5k over an Evo IX in terms of performance? Not really.
Is an Evo IX MR worth the extra $5k over an Evo IX in terms of hardware? Maybe.
Is an Evo IX MR a rip-off? No.

If the price is so close, I would of gotten a used MR. But I am so happy with mine.

Evo is a fun and quick car, stock.

Well Said.

I guess I just like the feeling of saying I got a MR. Its like saying u drive a BMW. Eh, what ever. M3 or M5 oh sh#$t, now we are talking. But infact I actually paid under invoice for my MR. Probably same price many have paid for an Se or RS.
Whats ironic is that the MR feels like more of the daily driver. The suspension is more compliant on rough roads, the lights better for visibility and the 6 speed is more friendly from 40mph on with the extra gear selection.

I'm guessing you may have been stricken with a slight case of buyers remorse. Most people experience it (weather its the cars color, or in your case the specific model you bought). Give it a week or so. You'll love it and end up thinking you were crazy for making this thread

Nah, not so much buyers remorse as it is buyers second-guessing.

My final word is this: if you bought the car you wanted, then you should be happy. If you were pressured into getting something more, then that sucks. Me, I wanted top of the line and got that with the MR SE.

Is the 6 speed ideal for the track? No, but I've had 5 speeds before...this time I wanted the 6.

I bought my car because it was the one I wanted (although, yes, the dealer was more anxious to get me in the Special Edition rather than the regular MR lol but hey, I could have said otherwise).

Bottom line, I luuuurvs my baby

I had a choice between an 05 MR and an 06 GSR. I personally liked all of the 'extras' that the MR had. (Shifter, petals, rims, vortex, etc) Sure its all for looks, but I am very happy with my MR
