MR worth it?

Hey all,

I just recently became a Evo IX MR owner. Posted it earlier. Some of you know me. I just wanted to know if it was really worth shelling out the extra couple of g's for the MR edition? Did I just buy it for th "M.R." logo? Major difference is the 5spd vs 6spd tranny. Any thoughts. Thanks.

Let me give you my personal experience in this...even though it's just one man's opinion.

For my last car, I bought the low end model that was without all the "shiny shiny," and while I denied it as best I could, I always knew I missed out on some fun stuff.

Is all this stuff necessary? Like the special red-stitched seats that come with the SE? Hell no. Am I glad I have them, hell yes. lol

As for the tranny, sure we've all heard bad things about the 6 speed...but unless you're at the track day in and day out (which is where you'd probably only want an RS) it's a no brainer.

Long story short, I bought the MR because it was the best one available, and I'm loving every minute of it.

This is probably a question better posed before the purchase. For me, it is worth it.

to me no....an extra 6 grand could help you in other areas. for an extra 6 G's you got the badge, alum roof, 6 spd, wheels and suspension. IMO not worth it unless its a track car. for the street, no.

i would have gotten the SE because it has the roof and red stitched seats. the MR isnt even that light. the 6 spd weighs a little more but its weaker. if you were going to buy the car and take it straight to the track then ok fine, u made a good choice. and by going to the track, i mean AutoX not drag.

i think its the opposite, for a street car yes. for a track car no. the bilstein suspension rides better on the street plus you get HIDs. other than that anything else on the MR is a waste, the 5 spd is better for tracking, the bilsteins should be replaced with coilovers, the zero lift kit stuff could be replaced with better things. the aluminum roof weight savings is offset by the weight of the HIDs. plus if you get the SE you get the lighter BBS wheels and aluminum roof.

well for the track i have heard of guys on here taking there stock MRs and beating many track cars.....to me, for the street, i would change the suspension either way if i had an MR or another IX to TEIN suspension or something

the HIDs and ballasts add like 20 pounds and what the roof saves 20 pounds? not sure those numbers are guesses.

well yeah MR can beat a lot of track cars, but it doesnt make it a better track car. the aluminum roof savings is noticeable because it lowers the center of gravity. my point was if you are going to buy the MR and change the suspension why pay for the bilsteins in the first place. also a lot of people with MRs are ripping up their 4th gear when they track. many have changed to the 5 spd tranny after doing so.

If I had it my way, I would had gotten the MR.

You have to know that, worth it or not you bought it already so just enjoy. Also, it's better to know that you've got the best in line instead of wondering what it's like to drive the best in it's class.

To make it simple, just enjoy your ride.

It doesnt matter....you already bought the car so just have fun. I know for a fact SE is better deal out of them all, but hey I'm getting a black MR. WHY?? Because it's RARE and this is the only year they had a black one and I like rare cars. So to me it is worth it. For you maybe not, but who cares have fun and be safe.

.....and for the record...

You do not have to track the hell out of it to break 4th gear. One guy broke it after 7 track days. Thats not much at all considering my stock integra tranny went through way more abuse.

Blanket statements such as this bring me out from lurking around EvoM. Let's say I bought my MR for 6K over a lesser model. Was I ripped off? What if I am happy with paying that price, and happy with what I got for it? Was I ripped off? What if I had to go way out of my way and out-bid 4 other buyers for the car I really wanted and am exceedingly happy that I got it? Was I still ripped off? I would submit that not only was I not ripped off, but I was lucky to get what I got. If I bought a car for 30K that sold for 31K and I was dissatisfied, was it a ripoff, or not? Some may say yes. It is all in the eye of the beholder.
