A "true" TBE will not use a cat, it will you a straight, test, cat delet pipe, whatever you wanna call it. You can get an TBE with a Hi Flow cat but they arent considered a true TBE.

A test pipe will obviously cause your CEL to come on cause it will pick up that the car has no catalytic converter. But there are many CEL fixes out there.

IMO

Just buy a Buschur Racing TBE they throw in a CEL fix so you dont have to worry about it.

Good luck

Yes a TBE will throw a check engine light and you can either Get a tune, do a mechanical fix (see the how to forum under the post of 02 simulator or 02 mechanical fix) or you can get something the the perrin 02 simulator (electronic) I just did the mechanical fix on mine. It is your option to get a TBE with a cat or not, most people get a test pipe instead of a high flow cat. Go to www.amsperformance.com they have pictures of the test pipe and high flow cats and what not.

When you buy a TBE from someone, say Buschur in this example, is it possible to reinstall the stock cat for emissions test purposes? Does it vary by manufacturer?

Replacing a tbe back to stock isn't hard... as long as your bolts aren't rusted solid.

Do you have to swap the downpipe and catback usually? Or can you just do the test pipe to cat switch?

I think it depends on the TBE. The turboxs can use the factory cat if I read it right or use a test pipe, so you would THINK it wouldn't be difficult to just put the cat back in.

Seriously, the whole 5 extra hp you get from the test pipe isn't really worth the hassle. Just put in a highflow cat and forget about it.

ya you can get high flow cats on lancershop.com for just a lil bit more than a test pipe...than theres no hassle with a CEL or risking getting in trouble for not having a cat
