As for the original question, I think it really is a matter of experience. You can't just generalize and say young drivers automatically equals less experience. Some people are just smatter drivers no matter what age they are. Oh, and it is funny that people automatically think that younger evo drivers will crash their evo's. From what I have seen and read on this forum, it is the older evo driver's that have totalled their evo's the most.
I am 18 an in my evo, before this i had a 2000 camaro ss with around 400rwhp so i think it is alright as long as you are smart, do like me just work all the time then you cant get in much trouble.
I dont like to push my limits in the car cuz i underestimated the power the first night i got it...coming from a turboed civic..i had alil more torque..hahe..but I wouldnt trust an 18yo with an evo, let alone myself..
<<--18 with a evo...bodybuilder..and would love to drop all you $hi7 talkers who get so defensive over little things and talk$hi7 over the internet. People claim to be mature and handle the car but who cares, you're still a punk and your ignorance doesnt serve a purpose. Grow up.
(mostly directed to stevo) But most everyone else is cool..good props to you.

Yeah it's really not that hard to afford an evo at 18 if you still live at home. I'm 18 and I work 30 hours a week (i would work more but im in college) and I have no problem paying my monthly payments. So not all 18 year old evo owners are spoiled and even if their parents did buy them for it, who cares, it's their choice. I wish my parents would have boughten my evo for me, but I can afford it so all i needed was their co-signature.
hahaha
you old farts are just jealous. ive seen it before. im 18 years old and drive a pretty well modded evo x mr. from my perspective, age doesnt matter. my dad is wayyy more aggressive and drives my car(when i let him haha) way faster than i do. would you be saying a car like this is dangerous in the hands of a 41 year old man? cuz hes had it up to speeds of 192. on the highway! all you old people that think us 18 y.o. guys are dangerous cuz we have evos are just mad cuz they didnt make them when you were my age..
Age - completely unimportant.
Driving Capability - ALL that matters.
I think if you haven't at least recieved a Racing License from some sanction, you shouldn't be driving anything over 150hp or more than 2500 lbs as a safety measure to limit the amount of damage an unskilled bafoon can cause.
Take a Bus or donkey, leave the driving to us.

Also, driving capability is only part of the equation. If driving capability is all that matters, by that logic you could put someone who is EXCELLENT at driving, but extremely immature behind the wheel, and they won't crash JUST because they have a talent for driving? Another gem of a statement.
There are so many factors that influence the outcome of this situation, that the question is ambiguous. A reckless driver is a reckless driver, regardless of age. A teenager driving a 3000 pound Evo is no more or less effective at causing damage than if he/she was in any other 3000 pound car.
Most cars can be driven fast, hell even a SUV infiniti FX35 will hit 140mph. So if a teenager is going to drive fast, then they are going to drive fast... simple. It makes no difference what car they are in. If an inexperienced/untrained driver is going to wreck, they will sooner or later find a way to wreck no matter what car the driver is in. Maybe driving an evo increases the likely of it happening sooner rather than later, it will still most likely happen.
I am currently 21, and I have been driving a 400hp Evo since I was 18. Before the evo, I drove a Mazda Rx8. When I was 16, I was given the keys to various high hp cars, most over 500hp(Yes I was spoiled... obviously if I can share my experience)... and like anyone I drove the **** out of them all... and I still do today....and I will when I am 50, because lets face it, we drive fast cars because going fast is fun. I have NEVER wrecked any car, and I know plenty of friends that wrecked driving 'slow pos' cars when I was in high school. It is a problem of maturity, education, training, and not the capabilities of the car. Most argue that a teen's maturity is the cause of accidents and danger. In my opinion, maturity affects the odds that a teen will put themselves in a dangerous situation. Whether or not that results in an accident is entirely educationally based.
Think about teens and aggressive sports that demand exceptional coordination and control in unstable conditions...much like driving an automobile fast. A teenagers skills at skiing or downhill mountain biking for instance are more trusting than a 45ish year old, so why would driving not be?!? Reflexes slow with age! Now the kids are good at the sports why? Because they practice!
I grew up with a father that raced semi-professionally and was learning from day one how to hit the apex of corners and the physics of car control. When I was old enough, around 10, I raced go-karts, and now I compete in AutoX.
Now... when I have kids and if I am financially capable of being able to supply a child of mine with an Evo-equivalent car, it will not depend on what age they are. It will depend on how confident I am with their car control capabilities and if I feel they are properly trained. Don't kid yourself... If you hand the keys to a super fast car to a teenager they are going to drive it super fast, I did, anyone else would too, and the only reason I have never wrecked or put myself in a super dangerous situation is because I was educated and knew how to drive properly. But the fact is it did no matter what kind of car I drove, I drove them all faster than most would consider safe. Was it stupid? probably. Was it a hell of alot of fun? of course! I generally do drive safer on average today then I used to, call it maturity if you wish, or maybe I am just tired of the anxiety of dealing with cops on a regular basis and would rather be on a track But hate the teen driver not the car.
So ultimately, lets put this question to rest. Be scared of ALL teen drivers that are improperly educated, which is easily over 90%. I'm 21, even I am scared of younger drivers already, because I know how easy it is to get a license and how you can know nothing about car control. I believe our entire driver licensing process needs to be extremely more difficult and extreme driving school experience MANDATORY to obtain a license. Just my opinion on the matter
