It's not a bad thing to be "spolied" if you understand and appreciate what you've been given. Its not a matter of age as you said, just a matter of maturity.

In my experience, that's not the problem. Usually, the "spoiled" folks don't understand and appreciate what has been taken away...

I had a 04' gsxr1000 at 20.. I too this point in my life have paid for or am paying on everything I have ever had an dont own a credit car.. I am now 22 by about a month.. it depends on the person.. obviously the kid didnt pay for it himself unless hes buying and selling stocks in h.s... I think people who pay for their own stuff respect it enough to not break it.

This has been posted 3kx times. Almost everyone on here thinks it's "bratty" and "bull****" that anyone who is younger can't handle the Evo. Even tho, all the street racers are older.
Nobody notices that tho, I've never heard of any street racers being arrested under 23 in my area. Just a thought.

Im 19 and a senior in high school and yes I bought my own evo. I sold my old gsx that I paid for and used the money as a downpayment. My parents do pay for the insurance and I now pay the difference on how much more the evo was than the gsx. I work full time and deserve something nice for all work I do. I maintain the car also I get no other financial help from my parents other than insurance and a bed to sleep in. Most 19 year olds aren't mature enough to drive an evo safely but one thing the car has shown me is how bad of a driver I am and I am quite careful daily driving. Cant wait to bring her out to a real roadcourse and really learn how to drive.

My first car (at the tender age of 16) was a Mustang GT that I modified. A boy in my class also had the same car, but a ragtop. His was wrecked before his junior year was up and I still have my GT at age 27. It does depend on the person and responsibility/respect. Although, I feel if I had my EVO then, snowflakes falling wouldn't terrify me!
My kids WILL be taught on a race course as well as in driver's ed before they get anything with any sort of power - and they will have to buy it themselves.

Think for a moment of all of the crazy things you did when you were 18. Ever do any high risk things in your mom's grocery getter? - Yeah I thought so - me too. The only thing I can say is that somebody would have to be an incredibly mature 18 to have an EVO and give it the respect it deserves. There's no video game reset button if you wreck it, and with the speed that this car can produce, and the confidence it can inspire, mixed with lack of fear - this could yield some undesirable results.

my first car was a 1990 eclipse gsx, i learned a lot with that car.....mostly bad things.
but if i had kids i wouldnt even let them drive a gsx, let alone an evo...
first time drivers should get a beater car to learn the concepts of driving.
back then i didnt pay for sh*t, i had no respect for the car...

now im 24 and totally independent, i treat my evo better then my girlfriend...=)

****
18 years old with an evo, he will learn his lesson.... and **** his parents off when he smashes their investment. just hope he doesnt get hurt...

Does anyone else out there believe that an Evo should not fall into the hands of an 18 yr old, unless properly trained? I personally would love an Evo but I know that I would get myself into trouble, even if I took precautions.

just my opinion...
Personally, I think that jumping to conclusions on someone's age is completely immature and just plain unfair. I've been to many car meets where the older folks are acting much more childish then the younger bunch.

But then again, If you aren't over 21 and your parents bought you a nice car, you must be spoiled which automatically makes you irresponsible and everyone who you drive near is at risk of being killed at any moment...

Come on, lets be realistic here... I have a 17 year old friend with an Evo who has driven it to school every day for the past two years, and has never had an accident, lost control, or any of that. And his car is in the low 12's... On the other hand, I know of a kid at my school who had a trans am, and crashed that into a pole because he was an idiot. Also, I had another friend with a 91' MR2, who crashed his car into a pole when he lost control, driving normally, on a slick road. Now I know the Evo has a good amount of power, but I do think that there are a lot more worse cars out there that you see in high school parking lots(Vipers, which I know of three high school kids with Vipers, around my area... )...

People are different. Just because you don't think you could handle a car like an Evo, doesn't mean the whole world is just like you, because I can promise you, you are wrong.

Plus, this has been discussed way too much, come to your own conclusions, and why worry about other people... Are you 18 years old? Are you the one driving the car? NO... Are you the parent? NO... I don't see what the point of this thread is at all and therefore it's probabally pointless for me to even post this... I just don't understand why one would even care...

I totally agree. People on this forum just think they are complete badass's because they have an Evo, and think some little kid can't be as good as them. The people on this forum are unbelievebly knowledgeable and thats why I'm on here. But if it was jsut to talk, I would shoot myself.

Get your ***** out of your mind, and just stick with your brain

given that this kid is still in high school, he/she must be pretty spoiled to have a evo at that age! No one really will respect the car they drive unless that buy it themselves from hard work and discipline...
im 19, 20 in 2 months, and im a asian GIRL. seriously its a major character flaw buy asian girls cant drive! (except for me =)
i treated my first car like **** because i didnt buy and i didnt pay for insurance! but when you gotta shell out 100's of dollars a month for a car payment and 100's more for insuracne you learn to respect your ride.
and its a EVO... responsiblilty and skill should go hand in hand!
