Opting out of getting an Evo.
+1 but if your parents are buying this think how much responsibility it would show them if you decided to up and buy a decent $5k used car for a year or two. I bet they would buy you a skyline after that!
Glad to see that you would like to be responsible. I would recommend the legacy GT, but the G35 will pull the HS ******

Like I said before I was going to get an evo fro my 16th bday and Xmas present. After much thought I have decided to change my mind.
The lack of side air bags and poor crash test ratings were one factor in the decision. I dont really want to have to worry about that when im driving. Anotehr factor was just that im 16. I love evos and I envy those who have them but It would kill me to see my evo wrecked due to inexperience or sheer stupidity.
Another big factor was insurance, everywhere was too expensive for a 16 year old with a brand new evo.
I plan on leasing a car for 2-3 years or so and then get an Evo once I am more experienced.
The new cars I am looking at are the 2007 G35 Sport Sedan, a 2005 S4 at my local audi dealer and still the BMW 328xi.
I would just like to thank everyone who gave me their input and helped me here.

Crash worthiness figuring into your decision: that's pretty damn impressive on the maturity scale. As the father of a newly minted driver, I'd second the suggestion of the person who suggested the Subaru Legacy GT. Enough power to have fun, but not too much to get into trouble. RWD (G35) can bite you sometimes in manuevers if you aren't experienced with it. The GTI and A3 suggested are pretty practical, too. Once you get the car, get involved with autocrossing with SCCA or the like. It's one of the safest ways to learn the limits of the car's and your own limits.
i agree because a new driver will ding, dent, or crash the car. it's normal cause you're not familiar with driving. i've done it so it's not an attack on teenagers. just logical. get the cash your parents were going to hook you up and invest it. there's so many young people being rich nowadays. toys you can buy later when you get used to it.
here's what my wife did. 6 month new driver.
I would go with the BMW. IMO they are the best option for the money hands down. The braking, handling and ride quaility is unsurpassed. The G35 is nice but doesn't have the interior or solid feel of the the BMW. Audis are good for a few years but they are prone to broken power windows and electrical gremlins. At least in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you purchase.
