How fast do you drive to work anyway? Is your turbo glowing red hot when you stop?

I don't get this forum sometimes ... someone asks about a TT and people say it's a novelty, but when someone posts pics of their Defi gauges they are the most wonderful things in the world! Gauges are a necessity when modding these cars, but at $200+ a pop, I think the money would be better spent elsewhere. You can get the same readouts with gauges that are $50 a piece. It would just be nice if people would provide information to those who ask questions rather than critiquing their taste.

My original post was my information to contribute to the topic. I wasn't critiquing anyones taste.

and if you read the rest of the posts, most of them seem to agree with my original statement.

it seems like you're the one doing the critiquing..........

Any recommendations for manufacturer of timer to go for?

Thanks,

I've installed one of those in my '02 WRX. It's a simple job if you have clear instructions. Of course it depends on the TT you choose and how complex it might be... There is always the chance that something might go wrong and you'll have to spend a good bit of time dealing with a frustrating situation. When you get the TT in your hands and look at the instructions, you can decide if you are comfortable enough to do it yourself or take it to a shop......

Now, having said all that, I think that a turbo timer is a useless, superfluous and posssibly harmful item to add to your car unless it's a dedicated race car. Of course, if you like the bling and love gadgets, and don't mind spending money on these things, go for it

I wasn't referring to your post specifically, though it was included. I've just seen this happen over and over. It's just this anti-TT bandwagon that gets to me. Too many people think that a TT is useless but are just fine with spending cash on other things that people could consider "useless." It's just so close minded.

I have never gone into a thread when someone asked a logical question about a part and simply told them the part was useless. Even if it is something like the intake tornado things that really ARE completely useless, I will do my best to inform the OP about the part in question and why it might not be a good choice.

If it is something like a TT or gauges which are sort of a taste thing, I try to leave an objective post that gives some type of relevant information. I toss in my opinion at times, but it is along with useful, factual information.

i like my turbo timer, i usually turn off my car as soon as i park, my turbo timer gives me 30 seconds to roll up the windows without putting the key back in when i forget.

The harness plugs in on the left side of the steering column. You unplug the factory ignition harness, plug in the TT harness, then plug the factory harness into the TT harness. The TT harness gives you about 14" of wire for the connection and is pretty universal among the major brands (from what I've seen).

It's not closed minded or biased. It's a fact that a TT is a useless thing unless you make a habit of driving your car until the turbo is glowing red-hot and then shut off the ignition.....

You are right. The guys asked a question and got a bunch of comments but no appropriate answers. I tried to answer him logically in another post. However, TTs are not like Gauges. Gauges, and even totally cosmetic add-ons are fine and regardless of how useless they might be, they are a personal choice. The TT is something that affects directly the use of the car. IMHO, it's a p.o.s. and I regretted adding it to my car. I would not do it again and I would warn anyone else to avoid them unless they have a racing car.

The possibility of accidentally letting the clutch out automatically after turning off and pulling out the ignition key, while the engine is running, is much more likely to cause damage to your car than any lack of cooling down. Also, whenever any one else drives your car even for just a moment (like a valet or a service tech), they run the risk of having an accident. Besides, you run the risk of screwing up your wiring during installation (it has happened, check the archives), voiding your warranty and certainly wasting perfectly good money on a piece of crap. BTW, I speak from experience. I thought the TT was a good thing to have until I installed one in my WRX.... Save your money for better things
you probably never heard of the compustar alarm with built in turbo timer. There is no way you can accidentally let the clutch out if you do the "reservation mode." This the best thing, alarm/ security/ remote start and turbo timer(2W900FMR/PRO)

NO, I've never heard of that compustar alarm. Now, if it really works as you say, it would be nice to have. My experience with TTs is limited to simple turbo timers. They allow the engine tu continue running for a predetermined length of time after the ignition key is removed. Still, I think the TT is unnecessary for a regular driver or even guys like me who tend to drive a little more "spiritedly". by the time I pull into the parking lot in my job or my house, the cars has been off boost for quite a while... Besides, just letting the car idle is wasteful of fuel. Still, a nice alarm would be something that I definitely would like to have.
