Gauge question
Gauge question
Hey all! I just installed 3 Defi Blue Racer gauges, and the install pretty much went off without a hitch. Now that I have those beautiful gauges in there, I need to place the bezels so that the warning arrow is in the right place. However, I don't have a clue where to set the egt or oil pressure bezels. At what point does egt become dangerous? I noticed that my oil pressure drops way down when I'm coasting...is there a minimum I should be looking for? Or possibly a maximum pressure? (I doubt this, but I'm new to gauges) Thanks for the insight!
Well I was able to find out the EGT position, but I found out something very interesting about my car. Apparently Evo's run a lot higher oil pressure than most cars. I thought my gauge must be malfunctioning when I saw it spike up to 110 psi while boosting so I went to the dealer and the tech there looked it up. Apparently my gauges were accurate...60-100 psi is well within spec for normal driving! That seems like an awful lot of pressure to me, but I'm thinking it must be due to the high amount of boost pressure our cars have off the line as well as the fact that Mitsubishi probably has taken into account that a lot of Evo owners won't be sunday drivers
Higher pressure probably means less chance of the oil not getting to where it should be due to g-force. Anyway that's just my theory, as non-founded as it is. Comments?

Hey man, 900degrees C is (I'm assuming as Defi is a JDM product, that they read in C) is normally where it's going to be time to lift of the hammer. My Apexi EL2'S are set to 880C before the warning led ignites. This gives me a sec or two notice to let me know it's time to shut her down. As far as oil pressure, you did the right thing already by going to a dealer tech and having them look up the specs, I'd personally take the normal operating range, and set my gauge to flash at 1-3psi below that mark. Hope this helps, as it's worked for me for quite a while now. best of luck, and good choice on the gauges
Actually this series of Defi (Blue Racer) is American only so the gauges are in English measurements, but thanks anyway! A friend of mine told me around 1450 F is about the warning lvl for pyro when the sensor is in the down pipe...that sound about right? Not sure what that works out to in C...
The reason I went to the dealer was because I wanted to make sure that the gauge wasn't malfuctioning. Operating range on these cars is anywhere between 15 psi and 120 psi...depending on how cold the oil is and what you're doing at the time. As it turned out, the metric-english adapter that came with the gauge leaks...I had to put teflon tape around the threads to stop the leak :/
