egt probe placement

Where is the best place for the most accurate readings to put an egt probe in. I,m putting back in my triple a pillar gauge pod with the autometer oil pressure, water temp, and egt from my 03 8 in my BR350 IX? I,ve heard the best place is in the #2 runner of the ex manifold. The only thing i am worried about is getting metal shavings going thru the turbo if i do it while its on the car.

if you're worried about shavings going through the turbo, then the safest way is to take the manifold out of the car

I wouldnt even bother. Get a wideband O2 instead. Then install the EGT. At least it will give you a reference of what the correct EGT's should look like. Other wise...all you have is a temp that is subject to placement of the probe.

You have to ask yourself, is it worth the risk? Is the gauge just to entertain you or are you seriously going to use it to tune your car to the razor's edge? Most likely it is the former. Put it in the O2 housing. You don't have to worry about shavings or a peice of the EGT probe melting/coming apart and damaging your turbo. And when you go to have it tuned, they'll probably have their own testing euipment designed to give more accurate readings anyway.

u can do it on the car just drill where u have a ledge underneath for the shavings to drop. then use a magnet on a stick to grap all the big ones and then use a vacum to suck the rest out works like a charm

Where can I get the EGT probe with the S.S. braided protective shielding? My probe just bit the dust after 40K mi. on my diesel and then 15K mi. on the Evo.
