Any suggestions on an oil filter? I just went with the ones they have at Shucks. It was still better than the one that was on there before I switched it (some cheap penzoil crap)

There is thermostat bypass for the oil cooler so it won't be open all the time in cold weather.

Our oiling systems do have higher pressure than I'd see in other cars, but this is all normal.

One of the few weaknesses 4G63 is its rising oil temperature. The Evo uses a thermo switch that circulates the oil to the cooler when the temperature gets around 85C. When the oil temp is low, it will restrict oil flow to the oil cooler and raise the temperature of oil consequently. TOMEI oil thermo killer allows the oil to flow into the oil cooler constantly regardless of its temperature. Still, it is easy to put it back to stock thermo switch in winter to prevent over-cool. This item is especially useful if your Evo ever sees any track use.
Fits: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII, VIII

TECH TIP: This part may require a longer warm-up period during a cold start. VERY easy installation! Can be installed in less then 5 minutes when changing your oil.

yeahh oil pressure reads high until the car warms up then it drops once the oil temp reaches around 170-180.. this is why u stay under boost until oil temp rises to EOT

What's the point of that part if you're waiting for the car to warm up before launching anyway? I mean, by the time you're ready to go the oil will be flowing through the cooler even without this part.

No it won't. The factory oil thermostat doesn't open when the car has reached operating temperature. It only opens at 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Until the oil has reached this temp it is blocked from reaching the oil cooler. The Tomei unit mentioned above keeps the oil cooler open and flowing all the time.

The high pressure could be related to cold winter morning air temps in your area. I know that in some really cold parts of the world, people use electric engine block heaters before cold startups.

You might try running a lighter weight of motor oil in the winter months. I think that the factory manual recommends lighter viscosities in cold weather. You might try a 5W30 in the winter and then switch back to the 10W30 in the summer.
