Compilation Of Evo Problems

I'd like to start a thread about problems that EVO owners have had with their cars that seem to be common. I believe it will come in handy to would-be EVO owners and noobs (like myself) and maybe even....dare I say....WARRTALON!!!

Please include mods, miles, year, and trim (RS, GSR, MR)

Here's a list of a few of the ones I've heard about:
  1. MR 6spd 4th gear weak
  2. ........

Okay, maybe I've only got one. Maybe there is only one. That's why I need the rest of you to contribute.

If there already was an attempt at a thread like this or if there is one (which I have not seen) feel free to delete this thread.

03 GSR, NOT a single problem.....besides BOV leaking and dash lights going out- dont consider them real "problems" though.

I am already at 50,000 miles: 20k with 300whp, 30k with 350+whp

Only thing that has "failed" is the stock clutch, lasted 49,500 miles, juts replaced it with an Exedy Twin HD

Only had to change the wear-n-tear parts: brake pads, tires, etc.

what is your experience with the evo do you have problems with it too? MR 6 speed 4th gear weak- at what? 500awhp? I think there is a section for these at the evo forum already.

I think that the 4th gear issue is a heat problem. Those who track their MR's regularly have experienced the loss of 4th gear. It seems to be HP independent.

The real issue is that gears 4 through 6 aren't as beefy as 1 through 3 on the MR, or 4 and 5 on other Evos. I guess mitsu engineered them that way expecting less torque and thought they could get away with it.

5k, needed a new rear diff. Factory defect, replaced under warranty. Dealer said it was the 2nd one they had seen with the same defect.. factory defect doesn't really count as a problem to me..

'03 41K stock clutch slipping, HVAC temp control knob stuck on lukewarm, clear coat on wing gone, Brembos were pink, hood vent went silver in about 12K miles. Mechanically everything else was fine.
