Tires Are Important!!!
ok, i just got back from a heart-attack, cause my newly washed and waxed evo IX mr just almost totaled. Coming HOME from a car meet, i took a on ramp around eh 40... heard my kumo K104's start to screech, i tap the brake and the ABS LOCKS UP!. i went REALLY sideways. jerk the wheel left since i was skidding into a ditch, whole car went left drifting, jerk right and lined back up, after that, parked on the side for a min, and smoked a quick cig...
i just got these tires for daily driving... i didnt know tires were THAT important.
i know the stock advans have some hard sidewalls and soft inner tread.
THAT incident just happened no more then 15 mins.
what tires are close to our stockies? i want them back but dealer said 255 a pop!
thanks ahead of time

If you're looking for new tires and want one that has good traction and last long. Look at the UTQG. The numbers designates how long they last and the alphabet that follows are the rating of the traction.
Our Advan has UTQG rating of 140 A A, great traction but it doesn't last long. The bridgestone that I recommended you has a UTQG rating 400 AA A. Comes with a 40K mile gurantee as well.

Just reading your post and came up with a couple questions.
Do you think driver error could have anything to do with your near mishap? (i.e. hitting the brakes while traction was questionable)
I'd hate to think of the condition your car would be in (and the condition of my insurance rates) if you were in less than stellar road conditions like rain or winter precip.
Another question. Is this your first car?
I'm not really convinced that this was the tires fault whether they are low budget tires or not.

I've got some BFG KDW (D=dry & W=wet) and they are awesome. It's a great overall tire for daily use. They also work well at the track. It's not a track tire, so don't think they're going to win you any races, but they are decent for occasional track use and superb for daily use. The treadwear is 300 so they will last a while. I've got about 30k miles on mine and they're still in great shape. The only negative thing I could say about them is they are a bit on the louder side, but if you have an after market exhaust you won't even really be able to tell.
+1 to that
Also since our car is AWD when traction goes it goes totally unlike our FWD and RWD cousins who has 1 set of tires usually gripping very well because they are unpowered. Stickier tires may have yielded faster speeds around your corner but if you push those over the limit you'd actually have been worse off

Keep it safe bro and maybe take the car around a track

i have the rt615 and theyre okay in the wet... ill probably go with either a michelin ps2 next for the best wet and dry combo.. or if its too expensive the conti sport 2 for an almost best wet and dry... i use to run them on my audi be4 and they were amazing. the evo will push the tires to the edge since it has triple the power and a lot less wieght lol
cheers!
cheers!
Also, it's a 30,xxx car, with gobs of performance for the dollar. Don't scrimp on tires. Put tires on the car that deserve to be there.
