Lancer and Evo frames...

My friend is thinking about purchasing a wrecked Evo and get it running again. Im trying to find out for him if Evo's and Lancer's use the same frames.... he has someone that is going to repair it, but doesnt know of any salvaged evo's in the area that he can get part of the frame from.

Yes but the evo frame has a lot of spot welds to stiffen it.

I don't know... they're unibodies so It might not work. Its not like the car has a frame that can simply be unbolted.

So he should be good with taking the frame off a lancer and having putting it on the Evo... thats good. Makes it a bit easier. Obviously there are lots more obstacles to overcome with the type of damage the car has received.

If he gets it done right it will be fine. They build cars from the ground up no? If he can get the car cheap enough and get the work done the right way. He will be a happy man

Cocky evo owners like you just don't know when to stop. If you don't have nothing nice to say, then don't say it at all

i cant imagine that rebuilding with different frame will be as strong as a real evo frame, not to mention how expensive this whole project would be. i bet you could find a used 03 or 04 high mileage for less than the cost of the build. when a unibody gets totalled, its very difficult to get them perfect again (or so i have been told by lots and lots of body shops?)

First off, your friend should take it to a frame shop and see if they can repair it first. Most bent frames can be pulled and straightened easily. Unless the frame looks like an "L" shaped then you should be fine. It just depends on who does the work. I have a friend that will fix and straighten any shape and size bent frame that you want. How safe is it, I'm not going to gaurantee it though.

If he's getting the wrecked Evo cheap enough do something else with it. Mirage for instance.
