oil temp going up crazy...
oil temp going up crazy...
I drove my evo bit harder today, and oil temp went over 275 after about 8 turns...
I know the ARC makes oil cooler, but thats way too much money for me..
any recomandations?? thank you.

Damn that's roughly 140 degrees C. Are you sure something's not wrong with your stock oil cooler? That thing is huge and after 10+ dyno pulls back to back, my oil temp only rose to 90C.
What was your water temp doing?
There are two things that cool our cars -- the primary being coolant via the radiator. If your oil is getting that hot then you should have also had an increase in water temperature.
I am also curious as to how you are measuring this temperature. What are your temps during daily driving?
Oil temps that climb that quickly are indicative of a more serious problem such as blow by or a significant cooling issue and cannot be alleviated by upgrading the oil cooler. I don't get my temps that high even after 8 laps on hot days in the thin air out here in CO and I am running quite a few mods.

Have you recently had an oil change? If so the oil itself may be the reason.....
If for example you use a heavier weight oil it will not cool as quickly, and a thinner oil will cool quicker than normal.

There is a thermostat that controls the useage of the stock oil cooler....and i know they sell aftermarket ones that are lower......only adverse affect would be in the winter; it would take much longer to warm the oil up if the cooler was cooling it before operating temp. Maybe it could be a bad oil cooler thermostat??!!

hey i'd like to throw some ideas ur way...
1.i see u have an 06 mr so i bet ur radiator fluid is still fairly fresh. i would add water wetter to see if it helps drop the temp. before u add, make sure u minimize the air pockets in the radiator. also u can increase the ratio of water to antifreeze to improve cooling, make sure u get distilled water ONLY.
2.check condition of ur oil cooler, lots of bent fins? bugs? clean it.
3.are you running without undertray? put it back on.
4.add an aftermarket radiator cap
i hope my ideas help some.
