when do you need a flash?
I bought a 2003 evo used that already came with a hks intake, ive heard if you get a new intake you need a flash. howvever i have seen no problem yet and dont belive i need a flash yet. im going to buy a AMS catback next week and then later down the road in the this year i am planing to buy AMS hfc, AMS downpipe, AMS front mount, AMS licp,Halman MBC and a walbro fule pump(all at the same time). but do you need to get a flash right after i install it?
im just really want to know do you need a ecu flash when u upgrade the stock inrecooler and the licp?

Thanks for not grasping the humor in that, and secondly some intakes (not mentioning any names) can make some DRASTIC lean spots right where you dont want them.

It's not always necessary but always recommended. Different Evo's respond differently to intake install's. Mine would die when I came to a stop before my flash but others are fine. The one thing that's always true is the engine is operating outside of it's factory settings so it will never be 100% right without a flash even if it seems like everything's good.

my hks rs intake seems so be fine. dosnt stall and i use the stock bov. i know i need a flash now but i rather get some more mods then get a flash. not tryin to spend $500 on a flash then another $500 on a flash 5 mounths from now.
You don't need a flash after an intake. It brings in such a little difference of amount of air compared to the stock intake. You definetely need it after the fuel pump and mbc. And then so on after each mod.
You dont read the ECUflash forum or the Engine/Drivetrain forum much? Leave advice to the professionals. Its not the volume difference, its the fact that MAF "sees" more or less air at various points and drastically alters what part of the map you are operating in. This is why it requires attention more than most parts.
youre concerned about money on tuning eh? me too. buy a tactrix cable($80) and get an eflash from ttp($80) or jestr($150). then you can subscribe to months of tuning for 100-200 bucks for 3-6months. works out very nice, just pick up a wideband before you subscribe, and itll still be cheaper than doing alot of custom flashes
I would get as much of my stuff together as possible before flashing, that's my opinion anyways. But no matter what or when you do it, you will love the instant "noticeable" gain and better "gas mileage"
Have Fun
Have FunWorks makes great stuff, but $500 is in the realm of custom dyno tuning.
Whatever your decision, make sure it is an educated one through research. If you like doing your own work, start reading the ECUflash forum and engine management forum. MJ and a few others there are well-spring's of information.
