Oil Light acting up

I just bought a new Evo IX. 1900 miles now and today the oil light started to flicker. I parked it, let the engine cool and checked the oil. A bit low, but still perfect between the lines. (about 3/4 off the bottom). After I checked the oil, I was out again and the light came on again. This time I didn't let the engine cool, but again, still fine according to the stick. Any suggestions?

Just Take It To The Dealer. Sounds Like The Oil Pressure Sender Is Faulty.

YEah, mine started to do that about 5,000 miles after I bought my IX. If you search the forums you will see quite a few threads about IX owners and oil light flicker.

Mitsu oil sending units have done this in the past on my 1g and 2g DSM. In both cases the oil pressure was fine at idle when I hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Thanks for quick ideas. Is this still covered under warranty or does mitsu void the warranty for driving off the lot?

why does everyone thinks your warranty is gone when you drive off the lot.....

if you keep your car stock, you most likely wont have any problems. once they see you mod your car, they start getting real weird with warranting anything. they are no different then any other car manufactuer, just very strict with these cars. because they know how people drive them and they dont wanna be paying for problems that isnt their fault. its not like its free for them to just warranty parts.

the oil light problem will be covered under warranty

My 2004 started doing the same thing yesterday only at idle and only when fully warmed up. Today I changed the oil with some fresh Mobil 1 and it is still doing it, where is the oil pressure warning switch located I am guessing that is the problem.

sounds like the switch...its by the oil filter on the housing.. the evo at idle is supposed to pull 15 psi--most cars are in the 5-7 range before the light trips..

Thats where it is found on older mitsus (DSMs) not on the newer evos (VII+).

Oil sending unit is on the back of the block under the intake manifold.

Yesterday I put on a new oil pressure sending unit and it fixed the problem $25.04 with tax from my local dealer.
