Noob Here and my multi questions

Well to start off i would like to say hello and thanks for letting me join this forum.

I my self have ordered my New 08 lancer about two weeks ago and still have to wait a month before i get the damn thing so i thought of asking a few questions.

I ordered a blue with sun and sound manual gts!!! Yay can't wait accually this really sucks that i have to wait but o well this will be my first car that i accually would be the first owner of so i think i can wait for it.

Ok now to the questions
(i know i have seen some of this in forum before just go with me please)

I so far have been quoted fom 1500 to 630 every six months for insurance. What has everyone else seen? I know that they just released NHTSA crash test results so hopefully i can get a lower rate.

next how do you guys like the sound system they have installed i have a 500 watt amp and a 12 in JL 3 in my car which sounds great. just like to know what you guys think of the (factory system) i guess

So far everyone says the car is great looking very nice options for the price and i agree. No with the HP of this being 152 wondering if anyone has done some upgrades and what might your hp be now? and does it void factory warrenty... (yea new car don't want to void that yet)

two more things you all like the car? anything you don't like? like i said up top i seen it loved it read up on it and haven't even seen one up close or test drove one causethe local dealer is 300 miles away so i just called them and ordered. (need your input)

or last thing just watched SPEED channel and they did a quick over view of the car and they really enjoyed it just with there was more HP under he hood... But as they closed the sagment they said there was a rumor of a turbo gts in the works... wonder if we would have that option to upgrade to this Turbo..

anyways thanks for the time hope to hear some input

To answer your modding/warranty question, it gets the same answer as any other car. If the mod is responsible for the issue, then it's not covered under warranty. You should read up on the Magnusson-Moss act.

To add to the warranty question though: You bought a Mitsubishi, you probably did not get a warranty anyway (Sarcasm).

That only applies to Evo owners. Non-Evo owners seem to have better luck.

I got a great warranty. Free oil changes as long as they were done at the mitsu dealer, plus 10 year/100k miles drivetrain. Don't worry about the Magnusson-Moss act thing. Just assume that if you put something on your car and something near it srews up, they won't fix it. Trying to argue and prove them wrong will cost way too much money in the end. I also saw that motor trend (I think thats what it was) episode and they liked the Lancer overall, they just closed by saying that it could have used some more power, but there was a rumored turbo gts in the works. I listened to the sound system at the dealership and it sounded decent to me. It wasn't the bass of 2 12" subs but it would be good enough for me to not have to deal with an aftermarket one with the new setup of the CD player (not as easy to swap for an aftermarket HU). Enjoy the new car when you get it.

To answer your questions:

1) Insurance. The amount will vary depending on how much coverage you want, your age, gender and marital status. Young (16-26) men get the worst break, then it's young married women (i.e., child-raising age). So, if I tell you that we were quoted $805 for 6 months and that covers both my new Lancer and my wife's Taurus, keep in mind that we're both in our 40s! Geico has been very, very nice to us when we've had claims and they have been great about low rates.

2) Stereo. If you got the Sun & Sound package then you got the 650 watt Rockford-Fosgate system. It's simply awesome. I love the sound quality although I'm still learning all the bells and whistles. I love the music server and the ability to burn CDs to it - essentially an mp3 player in your car, why isn't every car maker doing this??? Short answer, I love it - but then again, my last car was an Escort with the factory stereo so your impression might be different than mine.

3) I plan on sticking with the base hp, plus adding a K&N air filter to boost things a teeny bit without violating the warranty or raising my insurance rates (don't forget, modifying your vehicle will raise your rates!)

4) Do I like the car? I love the car. I love the way it handles, it's got more than enough speed and moxy for what I wanted. It holds to the road like glue, accelerates well even with the CVT in auto mode and it's just a ton of fun tooling around the area with the stereo blasting. My wife is almost insanely jealous now, wishing she could have one too. "Nellie" (all my cars are "Nellie) has been fully accepted into the family. And yeah, I kinda like the fact that now everyone's looking at my car as if to say "What the heck is that?" I've yet to see another on the roads around here so it's still very unique. And I love the Rally Red color.

I will say this - make the road trip and test drive the car! You need to be certain that YOU like the way it drives and handles. My wife did the "no test drive" with her Taurus and we (IMO) got incredibly lucky that it worked out. I think it's insane. I drove a Mustang, a Fusion, an Aura, a Mustang, and a Mazda 3 before settling on the Lancer. I'm not going to spend 20-25k on a car and not be &*$% sure it's what I want.

In my case, I live in So Cal and my rates with my 08 and my 97 eclipse is running almost $600/6 months.

I may be biased bcuz I have owned mostly but I just love my Lancer. I was going to get a used 99 3000 gto but I saw the Lancer and it was love at first site. I like the kick of the mivec between 3500-4000k. I was also surprised on the quickness. And all the attention of everybody (especially the girls ) who asks me "what kind of car is that?" Right now, I am receiving a few upgrades from AEM and DC Sports to get the modding thing going. My choice was the 5-speed, for the fact I want take the car to the redline as far as it will go. The paddles were cool but I like shifting the "old school way." My only gripe is the big A-pillar w/the huge mirrors causing a blind spot.

In my opinion, you should have done the test drive. To find out which is better for you, the manual or the cvt.

Enjoy your new Lancer

It depends on the kind of modifications you're talking about, but in this case I meant modifications to the engine, transmission or suspension. Those kinds of modifications are generally to improve performance, which means you'll be driving faster and thereby more likely to be involved in an accident.

I know when I called Geico to get the original quote - and then again when I bought the Lancer - they asked me if the car had been modified from what Mitsubishi sells you.
