Incorrect. The HKS flutters under partial load due to the design of the valve (push/pull) and the constantly changing pressure differential in the intake mannifold and the IC piping while under partial throttle. It is NOT compressor surge.

 

Yeah, a surge is a different sound, the fluttering is unfortunately pretty normal on most DV's, but more prevelant on the HKS Due to its design, its a pretty unusual sound too, something like someone blowing across the top of a coke bottle.

FWIW, the HKS is not a great valve for most people, and its not really a good choice for an evo with a stock MAF, even when recirculating it can cause some weird problems.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't judge a BOV by its sound, the ones that work best don't make much noise, the louder it sounds, the more restrictive or improperly adjusted it generally is when it vents, hence the noise..

I understand what u are saying MALIBUJACK. so are u saying it's not that bad for the engine and he turbo??? i just want to know if its bad because i dont plan on changing it for another 2 months

 

dont adjust the boost other than what you are tuned for. i didnt know how much psi you are running, but since you say 22psi there is no reason to run any bov other than the jdm mr or the evo 9 bov. i saw you already have a hks intake, so you will get the bov sound with a properly recirculated bov.

 

If the sounds is specifically that whistling through a straw sound, and not a sputter/rattle sound, then its just the DV fluttering, if its a sputter rattle sound, then its surge (may be accompanied by bucking)

Same here. I had the ssq and noticed it wasn't holding top end boost for ****. stock is sufficient

 

only thing i like about it is the uic lol..
