price % drop after evo X intro.

whats going on guys i am new to this forum and am coming over to the jap world from the german. i am in the process of selling my stage 2 jetta (01) for an evo. i have been doing a lot of research and have come across numerous evo XIII's with under 30K. but i was hoping to get a IX, i like the exta hp and the ease of modding better.

the thing is i wont be purchasing the car until december (going to ireland for a semester abroad). my car will be gone by july and by the time i get back i know the price of the IX's will be lowered with the introduction of the X. i was just curious if any of you guys out there have any idea of the % of price that will be sliced with the new model coming out. i have no preference between the rs or not. just a general ball park estimation. the day i get i will look to make the purchase so i know the prices will be much different then, but i still would appreciate your input. thanks guys!

You can get a IX RS now for like 27. There might not be any brand new IX's by December.

i am looking for a used one, sorry if i didnt make that clear. with under 30k miles on it, haha sorry about that. i am going to purchase from a dealer though, not privately.

for instance, i have heard with the new m3 being introduced, the e46 ball park priced are supposively going to be dropped about 30 %. i was curious if you guys have heard anything like this with the new X being released if the older generations i.e. XIII, IX will have a price slice as well, if so any idea how much percentage will be cut

not likely
VIII didnt drop at all when IX came out

X is for different type of customers
not so many IXer will trade in for X
you will be lucky if it did go nuts like Supra and Mk2 Eclipse ( price went up $1-$2k for eclipse used when new mk2 was no longer avaliable)

you shouldn't have any problem finding a used IX, however just do your research on here and when it comes time to buying it, you know what to look for. I would also suggest to go for a test drive just so you can get a feel for what it should feel like.

i also came from a vdub

while this is true, the X is also a completely diferent body style and relatively a new car w/ a new engine.... i would think that the IX prices would drop once the X is introduced and starts selling.... i duno about a full 30% but mabey 10-20'ish...

I would agree ^^ and if the X turns out to be a slam dunk, there's no telling the number of EVOs that will suddenly be for sale or selling at low prices.

thanks guys i appreciate that, yeah i was thinking that because of the complete change within the car itself and engine, that the price would most likely drop a good 15 %.

and yes i know i should test drive a few and have been doing my homework thank you

I am kind of in a similar ball park as you bdowning..

I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and want to get an Evo IX. I will be taking my mid-tour leave in a week and will be trading my 05 STi in for an Evo IX MR. I thought about waiting for the X to come out, but after seeing it and reading about it, I have decided I really like the Evo VIII/IX a lot better. While the Evo will just be driven weekly while I am here, I would rather have it and know I got one, because if the X is not "all that" there will be a mass search for Evo IX's.

Does anyone know when Mitsubishi will stop making Evo IX's? Or have they already stopped?

Correct. The last US bound Lancer Evolutions stopped production in August of 06.

Yeah I bought mine back in December and wanted the WW with SSL and man was it a pain in the *** to find one here on the east coast. At the time there were only 3 on the entire east coast that were new.

I'm gonna be getting mine down in Texas, new TB IX MR.. just hoping I make it down there before they sell out.. I will be there in 2 weeks, and as of right now, they have a good number of Evo's left.
