BOV help

Hey guys, i had a question to ask you guys about blow off valves
Before you guys flame me, i did search not only on this forum but also on google

Anyways, I read from many threads that most aftermarket bov are not as good as the stock IX bypass valve, please correct me if I'm wrong
however, is there a way to make the stock bov louder?
and is it worth he money to by aftermarket bov?
if it is, which ones?

I saw numerous videos, and so far i like the HKS ssqv, the greddy rs, and the gfb or gbf stealth one. haha, i forgot what it was called

Thanks guys, and please help me with my dilemma.

Get an open intake if you wish to hear the BOV go pssh.

You can also get an APS dual vent BOV.

On the IX a BOV is not a worthwhile investment until you go big turbo.

If you put an aftermarket intake on it will be noticeably louder where you could hear it over the exhaust sound but mostly while shifting on boost.

is there a way to make the stock bov louder? by the sounds of this question you would like to hear your bov when changing gears at boost. which means you would be wanting an external venting aftermarket bov. if you are running the stock ecu ie not running a MAP Sensor, then you may want to keep in mind that you could be running a little rich after changing gears. I had a Skyline about 6 years ago and ran an external venting bov without a MAP Sensor and it ran fine to me, but it comes down to a question of running a little rich at gear changes or letting everyone know I have a bov.

If you decide to get one, I like the HKS SSQV, that is what I am currently running, it sounds great. The Blitz bov is great too. Allot of my friends are using the Tial bov with upgraded turbo kits.

a cone filter will make it audible. as far as upgrades, the only ones i would use are JDM MR(evo 9)metal DV, greddy type-s, forge RS, or a tial 50mm(only if i was running a MAP setup since it's not recirced).

Why would you want it louder? Isn't it annoying enough?

This thread should cover most of what you may have missed in previous searches:

Your car will run like hell when you change gears, it will bog down for a few seconds. I recently bought and evo which the previous owner put a vented BOV on and have already taken it off and replaced it with the stock one. Yes, it sounds good, but its not worth it. It also gets annoying really fast. I would just go with what everyone else said and get a cone intake.

Edit: Sorry about bumping the old thread, I searched and it came up, I didn't notice it said June 16 not July 16th.

Tension Adjustable Screw on HKS SSQ

I took the cover off of it to adjust the tension. I can't find it. Where is it?

I concur with everyone..haha. Whatever you do, however, if you're running with the stock turbo, you're looking at approx. 22psi at approx 35000rpm, which then tapers down to approx. 17psi at 65000rpm. Therefore, running an aftermarket BOV wouldn't really do much for gains, but since you're in it for the noise, speaking from experience, I would just go with 1, either a cone shaped filter (will make the same swoosh noise you're looking for), or 2, a recirculating BOV, much like the stock DV the Evo IX comes with. Reason being, if you get a VTA (bad idea!!!), and you're pushing higher rpms, unless you lift off the pedal to release the compressed air, a good amount of it will kick back into your turbo and you'll definitely feel the loss in boost due to a momentary pause in acceleration. On the otherhand, go for it if that's what you truly want (sound!!) and if you're going with a bigger turbo, then IMO, VTA would be an alright choice. Personally however, I'd get recirculating if staying stock or just stay with stock DV and drop in a cone shaped filter.

flutter from the bov? I know perrin bovs usually flutter, but you can adjust that as well. My buddy as a blue WRX w/perrin bov and he loves it because it flutters. IDK what other flutter noise you're referring to? Maybe you've seen it on Ft. Carson? He's sponsored by StreetDreams in Springs, but he put his back to stock before our unit deployed to Iraq. I had a turboXS VTA, which made that big swoosh sound, but like many others, it got annoying after awhile so I took it off and went back to stock (wise choice). VTA's in general just aren't ideal for our type of cars unless you're running a bigger turbo. Best advice, stay stock or go recirc.

or do u mean your car flutters while you're driving? Because if that's the case, then I don't like that because to me, it just sounds like your car's ripping *** down the street the whole time.

ive had a near 400 awhp evo 8 and now a stock evo 9 and on both of them i have used a go fast bits (gfb) bov. it would be perfect for what youre looking for because it is 100% adjustable from recirculating to atmosphere. the more you vent it, the louder it is but the richer you run between shifts and it does cause the car to bog down for a couple seconds. i run mine at roughly 70% recirculating and its much louder than stock. being adjustable you can tune it to be exactly how loud you want it with no or minimal bogging.
