Need serious help

Well first of all, your forum is a savior to those less fortunate (like me whom live in the USA) and aren't lucky enough to get real lancers this side of the pond.
Well my questionis this, i am going to purchase a mirage son, which is the closest thing we have to a lancer, and if you are familiar wth this model, you know it comes, SOHC and non AWD , so i ws wondering, how hard would it be, and costly to make this wannabe lancer into a reality. I understand i cannotmake it AWD, but i can make it look like alancer, ad i have heard i can transplant an eclipse GS-T motor, which is turbo. From that same car, could i easiy transfer the brakes and akeit a 5 lug?

know it's a lot to sk for, but if you can help i would appreciate it.

Why buy a Mirage when you can buy a Lancer? In case you haven't noticed the Lancer is available in the states. The closet would be a the O-Z Rally edition, but if you have the right dealer then you can contact RMR products WWW.RMRPRODUCTS.COM and they will be able to set you up with packages that will turn your ordinary Lancer into the closet thing to a EVO VII, or you can just wait like the rest of us and buy the real deal.

Good luck

Thumbs up I concur

I concur with EVOLVRVII in the fact that you should save you pennies for the EVO VII. If i wasn't a poor college student i would buy an EVO VII. plus why settle for FWD, or just buy an eclipse GSX. Any ways i think the mirage is a POS i drove a rental that i thought was going to fall apart. Lancers Rock

Or be cheap like me and get a old DSM. Its as close as you'll get to a Lan Evo with AWD and a 2.0 turbo, unless you go for looks

As a Mirage owner myself, I can tell you there is not too many options to upgrade the performance unless you're willing to take some extreme measure.

If you want the EVO look on a 97-01 Mirage, you can get the EVO IV, V, VI or TME bodykits from various sources for $750 to $1,750 plus shipping. On top of that, you have to add in the paint and labor. That's just for a "all show, no go" car.

I assumed you're thinking of getting the 97-01 Mirage. The 1/2G DSM 4G63 will not fit unless you're willing to relocate most of the things in your engine bay since the engine is located in the opposite side to the Mirage engine. A more feaseable choice will be getting an EVO IV+ (CN9A) 4G63 with the same orientation as the Mirage's to drop in. However, it's not cheap. In addition, you will have to decide to go all-out to do AWD coversion or staying FWD. In order to convert the Mirage into AWD, you will have to cut the real floor panel and swap in the EVO's one with the gas tank to make clearance for the drive shaft and rear transfer case. On the other hand, you CANNOT use the GS-T tranny to do a FWD either, since the different orientation between the two engines. You can either weld the center differential of the EVO's tranny to make it FWD OR use a tranny from a US 1.8 Mirage hoping the added torque will not distroy the tranny.

You will also need all the electronics, ECU, wiring and sensors, front axles, suspensions to compensate the added weight, bigger brakes for both FWD or AWD conversion.

Here is a link that might help.

I will take your complement with a big grin...

Anyway, other than the usual intake/header/exhaust combo, there are limited choices. If you want "serious" power inprovement, I would say force induction maybe the way to go, of course, that's only my opinion.

Road Performance Warehouse (RPW), an Aussie company that specialized in Mitsu performance, developed tons of products for Mirage/Lancer, check out their web site...you can find it in the link section of this site....

Make sure you check the message board section for more Mirage owners discussion. They all helpful folks...
