Tires
Tires
I'm new to the wear of performance tires because I came from a 1994 Previa.. I have a couple of questions..
I'm still addicted to the feeling of turbo pushing you into your seat (Also the little whistling noise), so I like to push her a lot. It's not EVERY single time, but whenever I get the chance too, I rev her up to about 4.5k (sometimes a little over, sometimes under, still breaking her in, so I cant go passed 5k RPM). How fast should I expect my tires to wear if I continue to do this? I'm currently at 93x miles..
Also, whenever people take pictures of their cars, the tread is also shiney. How do you get that look? Because I read the shine gel bottles, and they say not to put it on the tread because it causes the tire to slip. How do you guys do it?

rev 4.5k, thats not big deal bro, I rev my evo to 7k all the time with stock advans, it last me 25k miles, b/c I don't launch my car thats why they lasted longer than most drivers. no need to worry man.
btw, did you modify your previa? it's a popular trend in Japan, they make their Previa look like "Shikansen" the bullet train.

I actually tried to race my friends 2000 Pasat.. Hilarious because I kept up in the first 2 gears, then the Pasat pulled away in 3rd.. 94 Previa is still a beast! DD FTW! =]

My evo has never been launched and my advans lasted about 12K miles. The inner tread was gone. If you want them to last, you need to rotate every few thousand miles.

The stock toe settings are what make the tires wear so badly. The stock Advans are really soft but should last at least 15k with a good alignment and little to no auto-x/track day/spirited mountain drive time.
I'm at just around 12k on mine and the center tread block is still fine. The outer blocks are worn a bit on the left side due to 35 or so auto-x runs and a tame camber setting. I got an alignment at 300 miles.
Just hitting the gas in a straight line will not wear the tires much at all. A stock Evo shouldn't spin on dry asphalt from a roll. Wear really comes from cornering.
if you want them to last, get an alignment and zero out the toe.
