E85?
so my friend was telling me about E85
my thinking is that E85 is 85 octain because that would make sence.
although he said that he was ready that E 85 is actually 105 octain.
it doesnt make sence to me but he has been saying it over and over.
anyways he owns a fairly fast 91 DSM gsx running 17 psi
So i have raced him a few times and i have always been faster in my EVO
he filled his car up with E85 and he was telling me how fast his car felt
So we race and i only beat him by like half a car leangh.seems like E 85 really in 105
Any one know if E85 really is high octain and if so can i safely run it in my Evo?

It is a higher octane. I am pretty sure u can run it. I know atleast one of the vegas guys are tuned for it here. Don't know exactly what octane it is but i know it is well over 100. Someone else should chime in soon.

E85 also likes to run at higher ignition timing numbers generally without any knock. Though its octane rating is around 102 the octane the car seems to be more around 98-99 octane given the timing numbers and boost levels. Its by far a more superior fuel compared to any pump gas you can buy. It still wont match any good leaded race fuel.
To run e85 its strongly suggested you get large injectors and a fuel pump.
Also a side note if using e85 once the car is tuned you can't just switch back to gas or the tune will be way off and likely it wont run properly at all.

Read about Koenigsegg CCXR, basically a CCX thats made to run on E85, supposedly have gained like 150hp, improved emission and improved mileage I think.
There was also a thread here some guy wanted to mod his fuel system so he can run on E85 safely, he was running like dual 1000cc injection system or something. Conclusion was that the mod was worth doing where E85 is common I think.

I am running exclusively E85 all day long with gt37R ...numbers from Buschurs dyno in my signature....the engine is stroked...thats why I have more torque.
E85 is like cheap pump race gas in some places (where I live) ... Oh and I run 35psi daily ....you cant dream of running that much boost with a meth kit and 93 gas....or even run as much timing.
you will need more fuel pumps, bigger injectors, and a great tuner thats it.
If it wasnt for my hurt left knee I would be shooting for high 9s this summer on my street tune ....need some slicks though and a great driver...the first one I have to buy ...the second one I have to practice for
