Can someone explain the whole flashing thing to me...

I understand how flashing the stock computer works, but I'm interested in the details.

What cable do you use?
Where do you get cable and cost?
What flash program and where to get?
What tuning software and where to get?
Cost for all software?

I see in all the sigs "tuned by X".... so that person just got a tune from someone, used the flash software and cable and threw it on?

oh one more thing....

for bare bones mods that are easy to revert back to stock for the dealer, what is the best mod path?

The car has a aftermarket BOV and TBE with stock cat on there.

I assume all I need is a tune, some kind of cold air kit, and a MBC?

What's a safe boost to run on 91 oct?

Thanks again.

Yeah, Chris points a lot of people to his site for the info you needed. Its a great resource.

As far as the sigs, it could go either way. Only a few tuners will just send you a base map these days. Most of them will tweak the tune based on logs you provide to them. So, it's basically a custom tune via e-mail. This method is just as effective as a custom dyno or road tune done in person, it just takes a little longer.

You can run about 22 psi peak on 91 pretty safely. I wouldn't recommend more than that without know more and having the ability to tune yourself.

thanks for the reply. I'm comfortable tuning cars. I've tuned many with AEM including my supra in the sig. Just alittle new to this flash stuff and what you can and can't get away with as far as evo specific.

What is the best software to tune the stock ecu with? What does it cost?
