Open Downpipe?

Do any of you all run open DP on your EVO's? I've been wanting to try it not as a permanent thing but just to see how crazy it sound. I dont really ever hear about ppl doing this with these cars.

thanks

I've been wondering if it's hard to tune with an open dp/ stock ecu. I know it's loud and you have to worry about burning stuff under the car...

Yes, it would be super loud for a street car. You would also need some sort of turn-down to protect the undercarriage from open flame. Tuning wouldn't be an issue really and you could likely tune more aggressively with the free exhaust flow. O2 sensor placement would be the big issue where that's concerned since you can't put it too close to the turbo or the end of the pipe.

would you have any problems just running downpipe and test pipe? would you have to do anything special for that as far as tuning goes? Where I live no one cares how loud your exhaust is

Are you out of mods to do or do you just want a loud car?

You don't have to do anything special when you remove restriction but I advise caution when you put the pipes back on. More back pressure means more heat and more knock...

So then have fun :P

Why would the O2 sensor placement be an issue?? We are talking about the one that sits behind the cat? Can't you just do one of the many fixes that fool the computer that it is there and working?

i run a cutout....

downpipe / testpipe o2 cutout .....

My cutout sits in a ultimate racing testpipe after the o2 sensor so get no cels... the cutout is my turn down.. been running for 25k like this with no problems.

I love the sound when its open and have an electric unit so i have the stock catback sound

Cheers!
