Open Header?

I heard that running an open header, meaning with out any cats can damage your motor. Is that true? Im thinking of getting a test pipe, but i dont wanna do it if it will cause problems.
any information will help.
Joey

Edit: I already have the Kamikaze Header with Downpipe installed.

Well, an "open header" usually means that you have no exhaust bolted to it. And yes it can hurt your engine by means of cold air getting up into the engine after shutting it off, thus resulting in a burned vavle. But with straight exhaust bolted on, your ok... I have RRM header with test pipe and and axle back and I'm good.

OPEN HEADER is exactly what it says open at the end of the header with nothing else attached. Running a test pipe to the header will not allow cold air back flow, which cause warp or burn your valves. Getting a test pipe is a good idea.

I second to his statement.. This is what open header means... Just the header itself or prolly wit a DP? an cat?... Or maybe just header itself.. I heard it doesnt do anythin badd.. Ofcourse race purposes only...

if you do have to drive with an "open" header make sure you ease out of the throttle, this will not allow a sudden gulp of cold air back in.

best advice, do not drive with open headers on a regular basis daily driver

Yes, driving with an open header is not a good idea. Why would you do it anyway? At least run some piping down and out the sides or rear of the car. Even race cars with no mufflers or cats run piping from the headers.

the length of the header has alot to do with it, but if he keeps it up it will be the quietest 69 road runner on the planet.

Dyno showing HP and Tq

Torque

HP difference

My point is don't restrict the exhaust. Don't believe the whole "You need back pressure to create Torque"
