storing evo for 15 months.

posted similar question few weeks ago. I was going to store my evo in base storage but got in argument with parents. They think leaving for 15 months will fck up my car. People here told me to jack up the car. Went to autozone and they also told me to jack up the car and have little gas as possible with some gas treatment.
Really dont want to pay 200 bucks one way trip and also no ride for 2 weeks.
So is it safe to store car for 15months left alone? My parents want to me store at home so hey can start engine time to time.

Thanks! 35 days left. Going to have fun with my evo before i go.

Have you asked what they do when they(Army/Airforce) store your car? I believe they start your car on a regular basis.

The oils will be fine but the gas is the only thing thats iffy IMHO.

If your not going to start it disconnect the battery and place it into a simple keep alive charger the kind you can plug into a wall. Secondly get all the gas out you can by driving it and put stabil in the rest for storage.

Clean you car inside so nothing is accidentally left to rot like candy.
Car cover if you got one.

I'm coming back soon for my car after my 15 months of being here in a less than two weeks. I left my car with the army storage people. I was going to do my own storage thing but decided agaist it since it was going to cost a lot of money. Besides... if they **** it up... they will have to pay for it was my logic... so I guess we will have to see... supposedly they start it for you every month and drive it on the lot a couple of times so your tranny gets to turn also... we will have to see... I will keep you posted on the outcome if I get a chance to

Hi, new to the forum but saw this thread and couldnt help but reply. Leave the keys to your evo with someone else?? That someone else will drive it?????? Have you seen Ferris Bueller.
Leave it home, you know mum and dad aint gonna cain the life out of it, plus it keeps them happy as no doubt they are gonna miss you for that 15 months but will still feel like they are doing something parently for you.

On motorcycles you fill the tank so there is no exposed metal for rust to form on. And put in the fuel stabilizer. Car on stands for the tires is what I'd do also. I wouldn't start the engine, or let somebody else do it. My opinion is it takes more juice from the battery to start it and let it run for 5-10 minutes. I know that's not that accurate of a statement but when you start a car the tailpipe drops water from it until the engine heats up. If your folks just start it and let it idle for 15 minutes all they are doing is adding condensation to the oil and internals of the engine. Either drive it or let it idle a long time to burn that off the condensation it gets from the warm up period. Just my opionion, you should research it further on your own.

My uncle has an old 53 chevy, during winter months he fills the oil all the way to the top of the valve cover.
The car is usually on ramps but now on a lift.
Then he will drain and refill to normall level when spring comes.
The Amsoil fuel stabilizier is what he uses on a full tank of fuel.

No they dont they just leave it in a secured lot, tell you to unhook the battery and take all your stereo equipment and stuff out, unless they change it from post to post, which I doubt. I feel bad for my guys who left there car in our lot at Ft Drum (luckily I am married and my car is in Northern California so no rust for me). We get tons of snow and it get very very very cold there. Anyway just starting for the long haul, I'm done with my 15 months here in a few weeks, cant wait to get to drive me Evo IX for the first time. Good luck in the sand box, your just in time for the rainy season

why not just leave it with your parents? its definitly better to have it started once every month or so or else the gas left on the cylinder walls could start to damage it. i'd leave it with someone who i trust

Definitely, leave the Evo with someone you can trust to take care of your car while your gone, after 15 months in a craphole you dont want to come back to a great car that will be broken.

I'll have to think about it. Talked to people here and they said they will start my car and drive time to time. So i can not jackstand my car. I'm hoping for covered storage but still dont know that yet.
If I get to store in storage, I'll take pictures and video of it. I want to put rpm limit to it but dont have tatrix cable.
If something goes wrong, they are paying for it.
Need to find more information before this sunday.
Going on leave on sunday and coming back on next sunday. After that packing and more packing then 2 weeks later I'm off to kuwait.

na man, u dont get it. Leave it with the folks, my buddy went to iraq and left his ride with the folks. the cars doin great. They start if for him once a week for 5 mins, they move it forward a foot or to, to keep the tires from getting flat spots. U dont really need to jack it up. As for as the army storage, i have heard horror stories, im in the Air Force and will never hand anyone my car. if i go overseas, im leavin my car at my parents house. like everyone said, they will never abuse ure car, who will u trust to take care of ure evo, ure older, viser parents of some dumb, 18 yr old private who is pissed of that he has to babysit ure car. Ure parents will be happy u left it with them, somethin to remember u by. plus if u ask ure dad, he may wash it and wax it once in a while. Do they have a garage? even if they dont get a cover for it and give ure ride to the folks.
