SRT-4 Owner

Hello everyone, my name is Jason, I live in Georgia, and I currently have a 2004 Dodge SRT-4. I've had it for about a year and a half now, and im just tired of the problems that keep occuring, and the front wheel drive has got to go! I am saving all the money I can, and im hoping around April-May 08 I can sell my SRT and possibly get an Evo 8, love to have a 9 but im not financially able to go that route. I have driven an 05 Evo 8 before, it was definately out of the blue, some guy just came up to me, asked if I could drive straight shift, then told me that I was going to be his designated driver for the night lol! It was a very good experience, it had a Downpipe and a 6-puck clutch, I didnt get to really get on it, but I did do a pull to 100, and I fell in love! My 1st car was a 2g Eclipse (non turbo ftl!) but I have always loved the DSM's and know quite a bit about them, so I think an Evo would suit me pretty well. I have also tossed around the idea of getting a 350Z (03 or 04 Base), but I don't think i'd be too happy with it in the end. Anyone have some insight or encouragement or even critiscism go ahead. Sorry for such a long intro. You guys take it easy, im going to research!

Welcome.........do your research for sure before you buy. These are great cars but they have their share of issus to. I've had mine for a little under a year now and don't regret it for a minute. The car still amazes me every day. Good luck and happy hunting!!!

If I had to do it over I would have got an IX but, if you go over 500whp it doesnt really matter what evo you have.

Thanks for the welcome. Im aware that all cars will have their share of problems, but in the yr and half I've had my SRT I've replaced 3 passenger side axles, my TPS Sensor had to be replaced, boost gauge replaced, lower motor mount replaced, and it won't go in reverse all the time. I still do love the damn thing to death, but I just want change. I loved the Evo I drove, I've also test drove a IX, but it was just a turn into the back of the dealership, couldn't get a feel for it. Also, if I do decide to get a Evo, it will more than likely be an 05. Keep the comments coming. Also, om doing pretty good in saving, have about $1200 so far, and still have around 6 months to save up and see what happens. Hope to save atleast $3000.

I put 5800 down on an 05. Just remember when you buy an Evo it will drain your pocket cuz you will want to mod it....so get ready. So research is key for your moding.

honestly personally coming from a 50trimed srt-4 i sometimes wish i would have stuck with it. The evo is a MUCH MUCH better car all around but honestly the parts to fix it are WAY to expensive compared to any dodge. AWD= awesome but super expensive to fix. I mean once you get to a certain point in HP like im currently at if you dont preventively replace all things that could go wrong you WILL pay out your a$$ to replace parts week in and week out like im currently doing. Now that im making a fair amount of power ive gone through a tranny, xfer case, a couple motor mounts, clutch and the list of expensive stuff will go on and on so insted of putting that money into potential mods i could have had it went into making it drive again which really sucks imo. .....But then again the feel of AWD planting you in your seat with close to 500whp is priceless it seriously puts it all in perspective for me.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I have been a lurker on these boards for over a year now, and I'd say im pretty knowledgeable about Evos, as fars some of there problems, and what parts work better than others, so im not a total noob. Still have alot to learn though. Like I said, I have driven one before, and absolutley loved it! Im just growing tired of the SRT, I love how well it responds to mods, but I am not looking for 500whp or anything. The FWD really kills alot of its ability though, I think its just pointless having all that hp on a street driven SRT, which is what I use mine for. So yea, keep the comments coming, todays payday and all my cash is going in the bank!
