To my understanding (the gears may be different but the theory is the same), this is how the HVAC controls (mechanical) work. I had to cut off the pink part of the white box supports leaving the top cable mount nowhere to mount to, but the lower mount suffices. I think the binding is a cable issue and not a knob/control issue in my case. Heres what I cut for anyone wanting to install an orbital though.

Wow, russel again with the save! Im not sure what the heater blend is. I see its in the big white box in the dash that has the levers for the heat controls. I figured they were manual air diverter valves of some sort. In any case, does this bulliten apply to my 2006 MR? I have had no problems until yesterday, and I still havent taken a look at the cable. im going to do that right now actually. It seems like a lengthy procedure and I dont really want the dealership fiddling around taking my dash apart, and what not. They'll probably brake something else.

Thanks, Im gonna go look at that asap.

Thats what Im here for. I was slow on this one though.

The bulletin says 02 & up for Evo. HVAC boxes are confusing to me. I had some issues on my old Nissan and it was a nightmare for me. I finally gave up and would reach under the dash and switch the levers w/ my hand. That car is long gone now.

Oh yeah its a y valve. I should have known by the name "heater blend" it gradually blends in the hot air with the cold. Hence the name and the purpose of the knob that controls it.

I just cut the dash bracing out, much easier in my opinion.

Here is an update on my problem with the knob. It is because of the orbital system, guess there is some SERIOUS fittament issues with MR's. Check out this thread for more info....

oh man what PITA! I bought the TSB parts kit from Mitsubushiparts.net and thought I could tackle this fix this evening but discharging the refrigerant and removing the entire heater case looks to be a major procedure. How do I even remove the heater case? Do I have to remove the lower dash? It doesn't seem like I can pull it out from the bottom.

I feel like slapping someone at Mitsubishi right now >=(
