Greetings. I admit I'm a noob with a 2010 GSR. Is the info on the first page still aplicable for a 2010? I confess right now I'm on info. overload from reading things here so far.

New to forum, got a question

Is there a thread that describes the differences between an Evo VIII and an Evo IX? I know the differences by years, but what about model+year?

If this is posted somewhere, please forgive me. If not, could someone please help me out?

Thanks

p.s. Looking at buying an evo, and I want to know more than the basics before I buy one. Right now I'm looking at my friends 04 VIII.

Year to year there are changes in the evo. even in the viii's. Some bigger things were changed in the 9 but mostly the same old evolution (not Evolution) for perfection and practicallity.
There are a few threads around evom that will give you some really good info. its midnight here or i would find one for you. Big differences are more in the model levels. but there are some key differences between the 8 and the 9. the number one everyone will/ should mention without going into it in any detail is the turbo is better on the nine many people with an viii and with solid mechanical ability will shell out 550 or so for a turbo from a ix. either way there are options to make good power with either car.

Ohh also MIVEC is nice too. (on the ix's ) Mitsu's Variable valve timing (similar to vtec, vvti, etc)

I tried to stay vague while keeping accurate but m tired so please feel free to expand and correct as necessary.

Thanks. I've checked out Wiki, and it helps and is mostly reliable. Its just that it doesn't go into great detail on each model. I think I might need to do some more research into more technical articles.

Yea, the MIVEC is realy nice! Since the IX has the MIVEC engine, would you say a stock 05' IX would greatly out-perform a stock 05' VIII? Basically asking, is the MIVEC engine WAY better than what Mitsu had before?

This may be an already answered question, but since the IX has a LCD in front and back, would you want your car to have the same amount of power on each wheel while taking turns (as in not racing in a straight line)? Or would you want to have more power to the wheels that are on the outside of the turn?

Just go my Evo 8 less than a month ago, where should I start for information, the car had a TON of mods, with a bad tune, all top end stuff not to mention the AMS 850r turbo kit.

I read alot about BOV's and Recirculating ones, but still this is something that i cannot fully understand. Like if its atmospheric then i loose alot of boost on shifts? also going pig rich.
For example i aim about 400 whp on EvoX, and im going to change stock bov, what should i get ?
100% recirculating? or 50/50 ? ... or .. ? maybe some advise on brand and model.
I know its a noob question, but still i dont want to be some kind of a ricer, so its better to ask, any advise will be appreciated, Thanks.

Read the EVO 1-9 threads about tuning. Also read a lot of "How to's" if you plan on doing things yourself.

Rubber weather strippings

*Noob nightmares* What's the "Remedy" for those annoying scuff marks on the rubber weather strips under both the outside drvr & passenger side windows? And what do you recommend to prolong the life of those strips? thx & love the info on the evo's!

Can you guys give me your opinions on how many miles is to many when buying a used evo VIII or IX? I saw one that looks in good shape with like 53,000 is that pushing it?

Good stuff

Hey...this was posted almost 2 years ago but is still a good read. Most of this is basic knowledge but the same questions get asked over and over.
