Beginners Read Me: New To Your Evo Or Looking For An Evo?
I am a current STI owner and thought about making the switch to an Evo IX. I have seen the new Evo X in person and for some reason I am not feeling it much in terms of looks. I know I can get a nice deal on a IX and so far I have been reading posts here to familirize myself with them.
I test drove the 08 STI and I was not too impressed with it but again I would not leave it stock if I did get one. I have owned my 07 STI for almost one year and I am happy with it but as I found out more and more about Evos(especially the IXs) I have really started to show more interest in them. Any more advise for an Evo newbie I would appreciate it but this thread is very informative.

to the guy who said hes gunna change is oil every 7500 miles, feel free to let me know how long your motor lasts, its an evo not a prius i change mine 2500 miles i had it sent out and checked and they said it still had about 25% life in it, you do the math, 4g63"s have an oil heating problem, hence the oil cooler thermostat killer mod, also stock boost is pretty much 19psi, i disagree with the catback idea, i think that made the most notable difference of all the modification i have ever done to my evo as with any turbo car freeing up the exhaust flow in anyway possible is always good, if you want to drag race the car or make it a fast street car get an RS or a GSR if you are going to daily it or road race it get an MR if you plan on just road racing it in stock form get an MR if your going to go full out track monster find an RS you can always add a sereo and window motors you cant get rid of sound deading material thats on the others with out acid dipping the chassisall around car pick up a GSR cant go wrong, any guys new to the evo world can PM me if they have questions i have no problem answering them anyone in the NY/tristate area hop on to www.evo-ny.com and join up
i recently bought a 2003 evo, i'm working my way to do some small mods. ahh! i change the stock blow off valve to hks, and i place a short ram aem, but ever since i put the short ram my car is acting up funny, it revs crazy when i'm driving and put the gear on neutro, can someone help me, maybe i need a different name brand short ram, i heard aem is not really goood for evo's, i need some help....
This is great!!! Just a quick side note: On the section "What fluids does my Evo use and how often do I change them?" You had a very thorough write-up of the fluids, but no mention of how often to change them. Correct me if I'm wrong but usually it's every 20-30k depending on how often you take it to the track, right?
When they tune your car, they adjust ignition timing, a/f ratios, and make sure your car has no knock that could cause detonation.

For the most part, try to find a low mileage stock Evo. Don't buy modded, you never know how that owner treated it. Pretty much everything you know about STi's can transfer to Evo's.i recently bought a 2003 evo, i'm working my way to do some small mods. ahh! i change the stock blow off valve to hks, and i place a short ram aem, but ever since i put the short ram my car is acting up funny, it revs crazy when i'm driving and put the gear on neutro, can someone help me, maybe i need a different name brand short ram, i heard aem is not really goood for evo's, i need some help....
