good stuff. very informing, ya watch out when buying an evo sadly there are a lot of jerks out there who rape theres then tell you it has always been stock, i just now this month got my evo and i have been searching since last summer, i have looked at numerous evos and some were sad sad sights. I drove an 04 that the fuel pump cut out mid way thru the test drive lol on the freeway, and my freind an i looked at a 06 blue that was really good looking and all, he said it had basic bolt ons, it was kinda sketchy so we talked to some of the local evo guys we hang out with who know almost everyone in the az evo scene and apparently the kid had had his evo at over 600 whp, and it currently has a 8 turbo on it.. what an jerk.
BE carefull like they said^^ because you might be sorry. Im glad i waited because im so happy with mine.

If I were the mod gods i would make this thread mandatory to read before being able to post anything on evom. I would keep me from wasting my time typing in tritech a million times a week.

This thread is sooooooooooooo awesome. I had no idea you can call the dealer and ask what kind of warranty repairs the car has had. Turns out a car I was looking at had 10k in warranty repairs!! guy said $4k for replacing all 4 brakes and $5 for the tranny and transfer case! I love this thread!!!

Oh and another thing to look out for that I didnt see noted in this thread, is to make sure you ask about the clutch and when its been replaced!! Thats a $1300 job if you buy an evo with a bad clutch!

2 tears in a bucket

I am a newbee. I need advice on how to move my seat back. My last car had a lever at the bottom. Someone told me that my seats don't move back. I am a really short person and it's very hard to reach the pedals. I am stuck. I need help. I need advice from expert Evo drivers. Please help. I am alone. I am scared. I am broke.

Considering your V8/NA fox-body background, understand that the turbo lag on either an Evo VIII or IX (although it's supposedly slightly lessened on the IX w/ MIVEC) is going to really suck until you get used to it.

In fact, you might find that it sucks period, especially for driving around town.

I have to rev to 2k rpm and feather the clutch carefully when getting going on even a slight uphill, or risk looking like I just started driving stick that week.

When you're beating the snot out of the car, the lag isn't much of an issue. And for autox, you can theoretically reduce it by constantly left-foot braking (I can't do it well though).

Gas mileage on the Evo is pretty bad, despite only having a 2-liter engine - even after you get a remap to lean it out a bit. I only got 22-24 mpg at best (MR O2/downpipe/MIL.SPEC 3" cat/3" exhaust/remap/25 psi), and that's trying to maximize fuel economy by staying out of boost the majority of the time. Now that I have Cosworth cams, my fuel economy has dropped further to 19-21 mpg.

Driving a 5-speed Evo on the highway at 75 mph or faster is really satisfying though - just dip into the throttle in 5th gear, wait one second, and all of a sudden cars are flying backwards all around you.

Take down the vin number and call Mitsubishi. Ask them what kind of warranty repairs have been made.
What is the number to call? Do you call the dealership or some place else? I want to do this, but am not sure who to call. I tried calling the toll free Mitsubishi number but they had no clue what I was talking about...

VERY INFORMATIVE!!! This just helped me tons, after numerous test drives.... WW EVO IX MR for me......

Just found a 06 evo IX with 67,587 for $19,500. Is that a bit much, or should I talk the dealer down a bit?? Going to test drive it on tuesday.
