back pressure
By the time your exhaust gets to your muffler or silencer, it almost doesn't matter anymore. On a stock exhaust system you already have a system with enough flow restriction and by adding a silencer isn't going to do you any good. And if you are considering an aftermarket exhaust the most important thing you should worry about is piping diameter.

First of all, if you don't mind, can you turn off your cap lock?

And if you're running a 2 1/4 cat back, then you're running 2 1/4" piping right? I am not sure what your question really is?

Well....I have a 2.25 cat (not installed yet) with a muffler on it that I really dont want to use... but i have another muffler which has a 1 3/4 pipe running through it and is better quality. Its called a sound muffler??? Im not sure if I should use the sound muffler or buy another that would better suit more mid-range. Sorry about the caps and thanks.
To be honest, I don't think your choice of muffler is going to make much of a difference to you with your low end. Strictly from exhaust tuning, you are losing most of your exhaust velocity when you open up your piping to 2 1/4" so the scavanging effect is already destroyed right there and then and by restricting your flow rate again at the end of your exhaust will do you no good.
Then again if you look at the big picture, your (stock) engine is tuned more for city driving anyway... Hence the small cams and long intake tunnel, etc etc... I say don't worry so much about your muffler choice, slap on the cat back system you bought, and you should be happy with the 5 or 7 or however many HP gain they claimed to provide you.
