It is an awesome concept I have one that is unfortunately collecting dust as i got tired of trying to find a AP tuner and ended up getting a tatrix cable and ecuflash.

+1, IMO the AP is not worth the money. Open source tuning is the way to go

Why would someone need to pay a $600 Ecutek licencing fee, along with the cost of a tune, when Ecuflash is free? Here's a link to the Ecutek forum. Most of the threads ended a year ago.

OP, the AP is a great idea, especially for those without laptops, but its promise hasn't been realized in the Evo market. Before its release, there was talk of the AP supporting other tuners' maps, as well as allowing for customization. None of that has come to fruition.

I'm envious of the map switching of the AP. That alone might be worth the $700 to some. EcuFlash doesn't support that

yea my friend has one for his sti and suggested to me saying that it is fairly new for the evos. i heard the ecutek was harder to use. not sure if thats true im just trying to learn what my options are and what people like most. I think i rather have someone professionally tune my car then trying to hook up to a laptop and do it my self.

It's Ecuflash, not Ecutek. You would have the car tuned professionally by any of the e-tuners on the forum. You'd download your ROM, email it to the tuner. He'll send you a base map. You'll run some logs and send them back to him, receiving a personalized tune in return. More importantly, by logging the car, yourself, you can be sure that it as tuned safely. If you prefer to have an "in person" tune, look for a tuner in your area. Still, I'd strongly suggest logging the tune. Good luck.

I'm on the market for AP, but I'm still having mixed feelings if its worth gettin' it...I know they are good to subies but fairly new to Evos.
