Rev Limiter

I was reading around in the forums but didnt find a definite answer. Is it bad to hit the rev limiter at 7606 RPMS? I've seen "yes it is" answers and "no it isnt" answers. Just wanted to make sure completely if it damages the engine or not. Thansk in advance.

yes that is the stock limiter. i have ecu flash and every evo i have hooked up to had the stock limiter of just over 7600. hitting the limiter may cause knock which can harm ur engine over time however hitting it once in a while isn't gonna do anything. The limiter can be raised to 8 or so just so u don't hit the limiter.

to simplify it for u.... its not that bad, just don't make a habbit of hitting it. raise it to be safe

The rev limiter is there to protect your engine not harm it

Its perfectly safe to hit the stock rev limiter.

Raising the rev limit is a question of two things

1) will the bottom end hold together (rod bolts and stuff)
2) will the valve train be able to close in time (valve springs and stuff)

I personally wont take my stock bottom end above 7800 even though plenty of people do.

^^^the valve spring probably wont hold very well above 7000 grand, but will hold enough till the fuel cut. bottom end should hold unless you are pushin a new turbo pushing over 500whp at 30psi.

I've actually gone past it for a split second. When that happened the car made a scary noise but wouldn't allow me to go any further. Of course I immediately shifted gears and I felt like crap for a little while, but don't worry. That's what it's there for. Just make sure you don't do it again.

I agree with roadspike on this.

Can someone comment on if the rev limiter cuts spark or fuel.

Also, how does the launch control work, fuel or spark cut???
