Need advice before I buy!

Looking for some honest help and advice no stupid comments PLEASE. Here goes, i have been researching evos for several weeks and am about to purchase. As I read more and more I am getting discouraged. I see a lot of posts with tranny issues especially the 6 spd. The car I am looking at is an mr but are these really common issues. Even if I got a gsr it still seems prone to problems elsewhere. I am not knocking these cars but they seem to have issues. The question I guess I am asking is are these cars worth the dough? Isan sti more of a reliable choice? Are most of these problems driver error? Not trying to bring up another biased endless thread on trannies or anything but just some simple advice! Thanks...

simple... take care of it.. err make sure it was taken care of.. and it wont give you any problems. Aside from the usual clutch going out, but the transmission issues dont affect the majority of Evo owners.. I think my Evo is worth the 20k i spent on it.. brings a smile to my face everytime i take it out

test drive all three, the sti, gsr and mr, and see which one you like the best. I test drove the 2008 sti before i got my X MR, and I choose the MR, and i have had no problems at all. Good Luck!

Honestly I read alot about the MR 6 speed being this and that but Ive never had a problem with mine. It shifts nice and smooth. A friend of mine (Silver9MR on the forum) has a 12.2 sec MR with 30k+ miles on it and so far hes had no problems with the tranny. If your not gonna road race it or abuse the **** out of it I think it'll be fine. Oh and I dont know if this applies to everyone else but when its cold out my tranny is a lil notchy shifting into 2nd but once its warmed up its gone.

where did you read mr trannies have problems?

maybe if you road race it

if you want a reliable dd with little to no mods get a sti that's my opinion

I had a sti and I don't regret selling it one bit

subaru is a lot more friendly with modded cars and warranty work though

btw there is a noob section for a reason

Yes they are worth it. If you treat your car well, it will treat you well. MR or GSR, you will be fine if the car has been taken care of

listen, i was just like you for 5 months and 3 weeks ago i bought an evo 9 gsr with the SSL package and i love every second of it even when im asleep! (no lie)
see i was looking at 3 cars the lexus is300 and the 05 sti and the evo 8&9 you read on about all three and you make up your owm pros and cons the you gotta think whats good for you. i your worried about engien problems then the sti might be good for you i rate the reliability 6/10 and the evo 9.5/10 the stock motor is good for 600hp and the tranny is good for 400hp stock so you do the math, thats all i gotta say.......im an evo guy now and if you drive one and "really" have a fell for yourself then you wouln't think twice bro....
