Question Acceleration

Hi I am a first time poster here, So Hello to every one. I have a question what is the best way to increase the acceleration of your car? Is acceleration based off your HP? What is the best way to increase your acceleration? Also what is the best way to increase you HP? Sorry if these questions are dumb I just wouldn't know if I didn't ask.

Thanks,
Tom

high torque in any car is good, and since ur hp is directly related to the amount of torque u have than hp is a good thing also.

aparently there is some crazy algabraic equasion that is used to calculate hp using the mesured torque.

Okay so then whats the best way to raise the torque in such a small engine as a 4 cy., whats the best bang for the buck. Intake, intercooler, exhaust? How can I "super charge" a car is that a totally different engine or is it the mods done to it that make it so much better? Sorry for dumb questions I am new with cars.

Thanks,
Tom

yes, yes, & yes, there are any # of ways to raise hp/torque depends on what kind of car you drive.

Other ways to improve acceleration is to lighten the car, have shorter gear ratios, lighter wheels can also make a noticeable difference.

Low buget methods of improving acceleration would be, accelerating downhill, accelerating with the wind, duck taping fire extinguishers to your trunk and pointing them backwards for propulsion (much cheaper than NOS). Experiment with various combinations of the above mentioned to maximize the effect.

Okay well what exactly does a already "super charged" car have other then a regular one? If I get a non super cahrged car is there a way to bring it up to that level and to surpass that? If yes then how, with out NOS....yet.

Thanks,
Tom

Your questions are a little confusing. Are you talking turbo or super charger, both do the same thing: forced induction. They just have diferent ways of craming in more air. You can easily put a turbo in most cars it just takes money. So lets say you have a non turbo eclipse and a factory turbo eclipse. Of course the turbo is gonna walk the non-turbo. But now lets say you throw in a hahns racecraft turbo in the non T/C car. You will pull a faster 1/4 mile than the factory turbo..but you also had to spend over 3 grand to do it. If you want to go forced induction and genrate a good amountof power for less go with a factory turbo or supercharged cars. You will net bigger gains for way less cash. Then on the other hand some people enjoy building up a NA car and making it forced induction. you can surpass anything in my opinion( to a certian point) with the right amount of cash the sad thing is tho most of us dont have that luxury.

Well I have a complete and utter lack of money, so you are saying in the long run it is cheaper to by the Factory Turbo, right? So lets so I do that is there a way to make the factory turbo faster later on in the future? Sorry if my questions are confusing.

Thanks,
Tom

Also is it worth it to fork out the extra $200 for a carbon fiber predator hood, rather then the regular metal hood? And a question for mobius97 do you have a body kit on your Eclipse?

Thanks,
Tom

Exactly! And it is very easy to net more power out of the factory turbo. Let's just talk eclipses here. the stock elipse boost level is set up for 11 psi. It comes from the factory with a t25 turbo that is what most say its maxes out at 15psi. What you do here is purchase a $50 boost controller and raise the boost from 11 to 15. Keep in mind 1 psi is equal to about 7hp. some say 10. To be on the lowball side lets just say 4 (for real world numbers). right there I would say you just gained yourself about 16 horses or 50 bux. This is just an example. To get that amount of power from a NA car you would be spending a few hundred.

No I dont have a body kit on my car. Many DSMers find that the stock 97-99 eclipses look great the way they came from the factory. I already have sides skirts so why buy new ones. I have a "big mouth style" front bumper so why waste a few hundred buying another. I prefer a nice clean look myself. Here is my baby
