ride height problems =/

so...the previous owner lowered the car using H&R springs and yea..i couldnt avoid hitting this pothole going 25mph no matter what i did. and bam half the bumper lip on the left side is gone...yea.....this is getting really annoying now and i need to raise the height anyway for winter. so a couple of newb questions since i cant seem to find the answer searching:

1) how much are the OEM springs and how much would the labor usually be? like gimme a good price so the shop doesnt screw my wallet's *** hard.
2) is it just the springs that affect the ride height or the struts too?
3) if i raise the car back up will the ride be a little smoother? lol...just out of curiousity

thanks guys appreciate the help

I'd think you would miss your set up after putting back to stock?
1. You should be able to find a member who is willing to sell this dirt cheap, if not for free.
2. Its the springs.
3. OEM springs aren't "much much" better when it comes to comfort but mostly it's the stock KYB struts determining your ride smoothness.(tires come to play as well)
I switched to blistens(MR set up) and the ride got much better.

i would but NYC has a ****load of potholes and i drive to work 2 days of the week and sometimes i require a parking garage. every garage there i cant enter cuz my car is so low. the only one i can enter already cracked my bumper before it broke. Ive driven a stock height evo before so i probably wont miss it lol

Look in the for sale forums for OEM springs, there is no reason to fork out the arm and/ or leg required to get them from mitsu. The ride quality gain/ loss will depend on how the H&R springs are. From my experience, the Swifts yielded a noticeable improvement over the stockers. However, those springs have a progressive coil and I know that some serious effort went into the design of these springs. H&R is by no means crap, but I do not know the construction of the spring, I would say the lower the spring drop was, the greater the improvement you will feel going back to stock. ie, Tiens that slam dont ride that well (I didnt think).

Oh and if you have some space, a couple jacks, and some reasonably common tools (not guessing you do in NYC), a spring job isnt hard at all, check evomoto.com for a great how to. Good luck!

Also if you're up to it, may want to try to install it yourself. I decided to try on my old car a few months ago. Bought a spring compressor and service manual to get the torque settings. It sucked at first but after I did the first one, it was a lot easier to do the second and I learned a lot on how the suspension works....even if it was just a 03' sunfire. Either way, after you get then installed remember to get an alignment to save your tires.

Do the install yourself. Just get a manual spring compressor to compress the spring. Don't know about evos but I needed a impact gun to break loose the top nut of the strut off. After your new install u will need an alignment. I wouldn't go stock though looks ****ty... Save your money and try and buy a descent set of coilovers. You can prob get a nice used set up for like 7-800. I am very familiar with nyc streets and know what your prob going through. As far ride quality I am sitting on robispec coilovers and the ride is firm solid and and not too hard on full soft but the set up is pretty pricey andll worth it if your buying a coilover set up. Swapping out springs every eason suck but being able to adjust ride height and dampening characteristics is your best solution. Low in the summer and monster truck high in the winter.
