how more reliable can an STI be?
how more reliable can an STI be?
hey guys i have been planning on buying an evo now for like 2 months and love everything about them. i know this is talked about a lot but i am sick of dealers trying to sell me and STI because they say they are more reliable. it just seems like everyone is telling me the evo will break. i will be modding it but i never launch or track my car so i really cant see how itll blow up on me if its a daily driver.
basically i want everyone to make me feel better about an Evo....i sold my wrx for something more powerful and i feel the Evo is easier to make faster and much cheaper to make faster but will breaking parts technically make it more expensive?
thanks

Either way you will have as much of a chance breaking stuff on either car. Really it all comes up to you, Evo little bigger, love it through the turns, Sti feels almost like a non turbo when you drive it, either have cases of things breaking on stock cars from factory, I didn't want to be live everyone else and I loved the evo's more when I drove them and such, so that's what I got. Good luck, drive them both allot and try to fine then differences and what you need and such.

There is little to no difference. They both have the same quirks, the same squeks and rattles, and they both become less relaible as you mod them. I have owned an STi, a WRX, and an Evo IX...no difference in quality or relaibility IMHO
i recently traded in an 04 sti for a evo x and i feel great about the decision, considering the facts that evos make more power easier and handle way better than the sti. as for reliability its kinda hard to say. i bought my 04 sti used with 34k miles and just sold it with 78k miles, it never had one problem and i did the bare minimum as far as upkeep and maintenance on that car. its a fact that subarus are VERY reliable, but sure they have their problems like any other car. you've probably heard more stories about mitsubishis having problems (at least i have) but mitsu is a way bigger company than subaru is and theres WAY more mitsus out there than there are subys. in my opinion i guess i would say based on what ive seen over the years and the cars either myself or my family has owned mitsu might be a tiny bit less reliable but really not enough to take to heart or sway your decision or afterthoughts when buying an evo. for example if subaru was a 9 out of 10 mitsu would be a 7.5. you'll probly get different answers but this is my opinion. you should feel AWESOME about going from a wrx to an evo.
yea i know im excited to go from the wrx to evo. i have a vf34 turbo in it but driving around it didnt feel like a fast car. it felt better stage 2 believe it or not. i treat my cars well even with mods in them so i feel it all has to do with that. little problems wont be an issue i just dont want something major to happen
check out smikeevo on here, he has over 100k on his and hes tracked and raced it and that thing is still running great. just shows you if you take care of yours like he does you will be fine.

sti better car
this question brings out alot of opinions so i will state mine.if you are looking for a mild built (under 500 whp) daily driver i can gaurantee you you will be hapier with the sti (i am going to assume you are comparing an evo 8 or 9 and an 05 to 07 sti).i owned an 05 sti and got too aggressive with the tune (looking for more power than the stock fuel lines could flow)the sti bottom end was fully built but it had stock cyl.liners and one of them ballooned.the evo will not do this as it has an iron block.the sti is more expensive to build and not as neat under the hood (everything is difficult to get to). the sti rides better not as twitchy.the evo is cheaper to mod and you can do 600 whp w/o going into the engine (rods, piston etc.)the build quality on the two cars is not the same either.while the sti is no audi the interior of the evo with the exception of the seats is crap and no cruise control? what was mitsu. thinking.in the end it boils down to what you want and where your priorities are.i am probably going to sell my 05 evo (whitch is quite fast and looks great) in favor of a X mr with the dual clutch or if i can get my wife on board a gtr with the dual clutch.getting older and tired of rowing my shepracing 5 speed.and tired of fixing things every other week!good luck with your decision.
Having come from owning an 06 WRX vf39 to my EVO IX, I must say i am very happy with my choice. The Evo pulls way harder. The wrx handled decent, and went pretty good, but the Evo gives much more of a sporty appeal. The wrx IMO rode a little smoother, and the boxer rumble got me hard every time I drove it, but I still don't regret my descision. Hope this helps.
haha thanks for the opinions guys. i plan on doing the mods in my SIG and yea i hated working on my subaru...every time i did something i cut my hands and broke some knuckles. i am skeptical of an sti for that reason. the fuel injectors are a **** and if you want to change your turbo inlet you need to remove the friggen manifold and due tgv deletes as well when you upgrade to a 3 inch inlet turbo. i love have everything in the evo is basically right in front of me. i drive a lot but dont really care about comfort. i never used my cruise control in my subaru so i wouldnt care about that and the heated seats were nice but they got so hot my *** would burn off so i wouldnt miss that either. im looking at an evo right now with 32k on it and will probably drive it for the next 3 or 4 years so im pretty sure it will be nice to me if its got lower than 80k on it.
yea that is the main thing thats holding me back...its going to be my daily driver but maybe someday i will wanna buy a beater and keep the evo for joy rides. i feel the mods in my sig are plenty of power for a daily driver lol. i dont want to buy an sti and worry about it blowing up and im pretty mechanical but definetly cannot do the rods and pistons part of it.
