Question EVO IX Question

Hey Guys,
Looking into an Evo IX within a few months and I'll skip the noob questions, but really my only concern right now is the stock audio. Theres an 06 MR for sale and seeing as it is the highest, I would assume that it would have the best stock system but I am just wondering. Which Evo has the best stock audio system, and even if it is the best is it even anything special or should I just get the MR And worry about audio later. Thanks for any and all responses.

The Evo IX comes in RS, GSR, and MR (SE, SE-MR) U.S. models. I believe the best sound system other than MR would be the GSR with an SSL package. If you wanna keep it stock go for the MR, but if you wanna mod it, stick with the 5 speed tranny (anything but MR)

The GSR with the SSL (Sun, Sound, Leather) package has the 'upgraded' Audio system. MR has the same audio as the regular GSR Evo. Personally I would worry about the audio later if you want the rest of the features/colors of the MR model.

I would not buy an SSL Evo for the sound system alone. I bought my SSL for the sunroof, HIDs and leather interior (including leather door panels). But I upgraded the stereo, because the SSL stereo is not all that great. It has a cheap sub in the trunk, which does almost nothing, and a four-channel amp under the driver's seat, which has very little power. And there are tweeters in the A pillars. It really doesn't sound all that great. Decent, but nothing special.

Guess the Evo IX GSR SSL is more practical for me. Will do more research about it, and yes I have heard the MR 6speed isn't as great for dragging but more for the short gearing for the track. Thanks for the input, are GSR SSL's kind of rare or do you think I could find one fairly easily

I have a '06 Evo IX MR SE and the stock audio sounds great to me, even though I'm not very picky about the audio system. I'm sure there are worst audio systems out there and I bet the audio in the Evo is ranked pretty fairly.

The MR doesnt come with an upgraded sound system, very basic 6 speaker, am/fm CD player stereo. The regular IX w/SSL has the premium system with the subwoofer in the trunk.

The MR came with 6 speed, aluminum roof, Bilstein struts, BBS wheels, MR badges, MR gauge cluster, zero lift kit, and HID headlights. That was why they had the premium price.

In later IX production Mitsubishi released the SE which was a 5 speed car with the aluminum roof, BBS wheels, and HID headlights, SE Lip, red stiched Recaro's, and had an attractive price. Also there are some MR's with SE appearance package as well.

I would not choose an Evo based on the factory radio. Even the SSL package is nothing to write home about.

FWIW I think the stock audio on my 03 Evo is worlds better than the stock audio that was in my 03 350Z. It's not amazing but it does the job. So I say don't bother trying to find an SSL Evo.

In lieu of a nice stereo, might I recommend a fine 3" turbo-back exhaust instead?

the ssl package along with the 5speed just sound more attractive to me, even though the performance aspects of the MR are also very nice, the ssl just seems a little classier
