Evo Without Turbo
Some guy in my neighborhood is willing to sell me his evo (It's an evo for sure, checked VIN) that has no turbo. I drove it and it was sluggish, obviously, but it drove fine. 15k for an evo 9 (29,430 miles), yes or no?

Yeah you could put in the work and "bypass" the turbo itself but why would one go through that kind of trouble. I'd say it's probably a Lancer with the Evo stuff put on it. I've seen it many times. Post pictures or compare it to ones on this site. Look for Brembos, wider body lines, 4G63 engine, AWD system etc. Good luck.

I asked him why and basically its this... He went off to the army and let his gf take care of his car. Gf wanted money but guy didnt leave her much, so she decides to part out his car. She let someone else buy the turbo off his car (and his aftermarket exhaust). The guy who bought it fixed it up and left the car looking like it did before (except for exhaust and the pointless IC). Guy comes back from army, sees car, breaks up gf, needs money, wants to sell car to me as is. Taking it to a shop next week to see if its in okay condition but VIN checks up as Evo. It also has the wider body and everything else.

Yep, probably an Evo badged lancer. Kinda like all the yahoos running around with vtech badges on their standard hondas.
Have you looked under the hood? Does it say mivec turbo on the valve cover?
I just paid 22,500 for an evo9 with 13,000 miles on it. I drove it easy for 500 miles, not a single launch and now the clutch is slipping. I sold my old DD already too.

if that story is true that sucks a** for the guy. But anyways you should be able to tell if it's a Lance or an Evo, there are way too many differences between the two.
kinda on the same subject i drove my friend's SRT-4 with a broke turbo and it felt really sluggish and slow (not like they feel fast with a turbo lol j/k) so i am guessing that sorta like how u felt driving that Evo.
