Buying used Evo X GSR question about engine Tick..

Hello all,

On monday I might be buying a 2008 Evo GSR with 9,000 miles on it.

The first owner leased it from may 2008 - december 2008, it then got sold at auction, and now I'm thinking about getting it. The Carfax is clean.

I don't know bunch about lancer evolutions so I was hoping some of you might be able to enlighten me. The car drives great, and is really quiet on the inside of the cabin at idle. However, when you stand outside the car when its idling there's a noticeable "tick tick tick tick" sound coming from the engine bay. When you rev the engine, the "tick" does not increase in speed though, it sounds like it either goes away or gets drowned out by the exhaust.

Is that normal? Just want to make sure its not going to be a $28,000 mistake.

Thanks in advance.

It's the sound of the injectors. It's no big deal.

My car also "ticks", kinda annoying and perfectly normal.

For 28k I would think you could buy a new gsr now. But the noise is most likely to be normal and the car is still under warranty.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just wanted to make sure.

28,000 for a brand new GSR within 150 miles of Washington DC?

I've searched cars.com and autotrader.com and can't find one. Would be nice though haha. I've found a few that have a little less miles then 9,000 (2-5k) for 26-27kish but do not include the "sight, sound, and spoiler" package. Which I want.

The dealership I'm buying it from is also including a 6 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty that overlaps the Mitsu's 5/60,000. So i get an extra year and 40,000 miles . 0% doesn't really effect me since I'm buying the car outright. Screw intrest payments you know?

The one tiff I have with the deal is that the dealership won't replace the tires that look like they have 1-3k more miles on them. Orginally they said they would split the cost 50/50 with me, but later renigged on that and said no .

Where though? Are all Mitsu dealerships doing this? The only ones I see online are between 31-34k before tax.... Or am I stupid and missing something?

Depends the dealership.... You will eventually find a dealership willing to lose a few K wanting to get rid of some of their Evo's. I checked 4 dealerships here in the bay area, and only found 1 of those dealerships willing to give me that price. The other 4 where at around 31k-33k OTD. Just price around and I'm sure you will find a good deal. If you lived here in the bay area I would be more than happy to refer you to a place.
You can also look through evolutionm.net and if you find a member got a good price somewhere call that dealership, and ask if they ship. I hear of a few individuals buying from out of state, and having it delivered to them.

I got mine 3 weeks ago brand new for $29K. Silver GSR w/ SSS and all other options sans navigation, with 0% APR for 60 mos. Look harder - if you have to travel to get it, do it. If I knew I was going to own an Evo for only 8 months and then get it taken away because I'm too ****ty to pay for it I know how I'd drive it. That thing has probably been abused like crazy. Mine doesn't tick at all. Save yourself a million headaches and look for a new one.

Thanks guys.

You all saved me a lot of cash and probably a huge headache.

Did some searching and got a brand new PB X w/ SSS and 91 miles for 30,055 OTD.

I made the mistake of thinking i couldn't afford a new one and almost bought a used one with 6k miles for 27.5, the payments would have been higher than a brand new one for me...
