Rear wheels are screeching.

Sorry for so many questions. im a big noob around here and still a big noob on my evo 9. well, im been driving my car for about two months now. when i test drove it, it seemed to be in very great condition with a great tune. everything seems to be great. After i brough the car home, the only problem is that i hear a really loud and high pitch screeching noise on the rear wheels. i hear it most of the time when i am braking to slow down. one day, my brother and i took out the rims to check on the brakes. the brakes had plenty of life. but still i was confused. Since the car was still jacked up. i had my car in first gear and letted my e-brake down. when i turned the rear wheels, it made that same sound that i always hear in the car. Still confused about what was going on. Does anybody have a clue what is going on and how can i fix it?

hey, did you ever get this figured out?

my car is doing pretty much the same thing, except I drive an 04 Ralliart. Rear wheels will make a high screeching sound when I'm either going slow or stopped and then put the e-brake on or turn the wheel hard. They also make a creaking sound when I drive slowly and am not doing anything but driving straight.

Things to check: Pad life (do you know if these are street pads?), your differential, or your wheel bearing/ half shaft boots. If there is damage or fluid/grease missing from the diff, half shaft boots, or the wheel bearing is damaged, you could definitely hear screeching do a lack of lubrication or damage to the gears. Good luck.

Could be wheel bearings in your case as you have no half shafts or a diff back there. I am not very familiar with how to check the bearings for damage except to remove them and check for excessive wear.

hey, thanks for the quick reply. It has been bothering me for about 2 weeks, hopefully I wont have to look much further than the bearings.

screech

Did you pull the calipers and look at the brake pads or just look at them ? pull them and spin it to see if the noise is still there. then check bearings. I never checked my evo but do they have pads on the parking brake ?
