8 or 9 for me!!

Well I am currently deployed but I take midtour leave in November, I come back home in April.

Well I've been reading about the X lately, and I am getting very discouraged about buying one. Not only are almost all 2008 X's sold out, but the 2010 will probably have half of the production as the 08s did. So that means full MSRP, yea, screw that, especially with all the tranny issues I read about, and all about how the car is falling apart. Screw that lol. Especially since the X has been out 2 years and still no one seems to be pushing to much HP out of it considering the tranny, in the GSR and MR included. So I might just go back, save a little bit of money and pay cash for a Evo 8 or 9, than spend a good chunk of money in the 8 or 9 itself.

So I think that will definitly be my final decision, unless that CTS-V has me rollin lol, but yea.

Does anyone know some nice wheels/rims etc for an Evo 8 or 9? Because I want to start looking into it, because I'll probably pay cash for an Evo 8 or 9 since you can easily buy one now for 20g or lower. That leaves me with around 15gs to play with.

Also help on exhaust etc you know the jist of it

You can buy mine for 20G J/K. I like the look of the X too buy after test driving one, I don't really like it that much. As far as wheels for the 8 or 9, if you do some search under show and shine, there should be plenty of pic of them with diff wheels. GL, welcome back and welcome to the forum!

Well searching on what mods are best for the 8/9 is what your going to be met with...there is so much knowledge on here it can be daunting at first but search some topics like....exhaust for EVo or first mods etc.

2nd: I haven't heard of quality issues that are widespread on the X. The worst issues I've heard are purely from preference (Preferring the older body style over the new. From all accounts it seems the X responds to bolt ons as good or better the IX.

Honestly you need to ask your self what is the most important thing you want for the car. The main areas are price, modability (if it matters to you), looks (Subjective), and what you want to do with the car (Track monster, drag queen, street bully or the expensive task of having some of all 3).

400 seems to be easy to do on all three versions of the EVO...May take a few more mods with the VIII but its negligible.

Next is power. If you want 500 or less then again all 3 will get you where you want with pretty much the same mods. If you are trying to get to warp speed then stay with the EVO VIII/IX The formula appears to be AMS/Buschur racing short block, Shep/Jacks/TRE transfer case/Transmission upgrade, Dual/Triple plate clutch and HTA/FP Red turbo....after that tuning is your only limitation (You can stay with ECUFlash or go with AEM). Plenty of 500+ cars with that combo.

Looks are subjective. I actually liked the X more when it came out but the IX/VIII grew on me more so that factored in to my decision greatly when I got my EVO.

Cost was the other factor. I didn't want to spend 30K (You can find a X for as low as 26K these days). I got my iX for 15K plus my 04 CBR600....I'm still working issues out on the car but point is I got it cheap.

Last thing I didn't list is creature comforts. My wife's IS whisch is an 01 completely kills my car in this area.

See I've looked at some in the Show&Shine, but on government computers the military likes to block imageshack as well as photobucket so I can be S.O.L unless they are attached to the website, or on a totally different website lol.

And thanks for the Welcome, been here 2 years just never posted LOL.

I'm Looking to go stay in the 450-500hp range, I can see that bolt-ons are great for all 3, but if I did go for a X not only would I be broke(unless I paid monthly, and I'm almost done paying my lancer off, it would be nice to have an Evo without a monthly car payment, lol), but it seems like I just constantly read about tranny issues. I've always loved the VIII/IX, In my personal preference, If I can I will get a IX if not I'll get an VIII. Comforts is not an issue, didn't buy a lancer for its comforts thats for sure, so I think and VIII or IX wont kill me in that area Lol. And I like the look of the VIII/IX, if no one else does oh well thats them, they just don't understand the power that is behind this engine than. :P Street bully would be a start, actually, not even that. Considering I wouldn't street race, eventually I would go on the track though, but yea lets just say I would start it out as a street bully.

I know all vehicles are going to have issues, its just a few general things I've read in the Evo X general forum, just looking through it all. Also the VIII or IX would be nice, considering all the mods that are already out with it, I can't really go wrong, when alot of things about the Evo X are still in R&D

The thing with buying these cars used is usually the new owner ends up having to replace/fix clutch/tranny/transfer case or all three. So if you are going to buy used i would plan to spend about 3000 if you can swing it to get those taken care of right off the bat (if it hasn't already been doen by whoever you buy the car from).

Having an EVO with no note is def. the way to go if you can afford it. I have to keep reminding myself that I have no monthly obligations with this car. As a result I have been guilt free modding it. Insurance is way cheaper as well. These days esp. with the way the economy is I'm glad. I planned for this for a few years. I purposely sacrificed and went carless for 2 years. It was def. worth it.
