Odd Noises....any clue...pls read

I'm pretty stumped where the following noises are coming from.

I've had the car for 3 days now and have been observing a noise in the front left area of the car. A thump/tap noise would sound after going over a moderate bump or railroad strips. It only happens then and also in no other 3 places where the suspension lie. ANOTHER NOISE is a crinkly noise. Kinda like crinkling paper but with a plastic or light metallic sound. This happens somewhere behind the center console...and only at RPMs of around3,500 to 4,000 (I havent taken it further since it is being broken in)...

Please let me know so I can send this in to the shop and hopefully they can fix this before I pull my hair out...

Thanks,
Ken

My car is making same noise also... but my is like coming from the Tranny.. When i put my car in reverse and let go the press the break, i hear like a metal cling sound. When i put it in drive and move forward and hit the brake, again the same sound. And sometimes when i just leave the car turned on, and listen, i hear the same type of noise, but the fan turns on. I took it to the dealer today, they inspected it and said everything was normal, so i'm guessing it's probably just the parts working..

but i'm really doubtin' them... hey warranty, it breaks down they fix it.

I used to have the same problem

I used to have the same problem, especially when traveling at higher speeds around the RPM range that you mentioned.

I waited a couple of days and the noise went away by itself, pretty mysterious...

You should bring the car to your dealer to figure out the problem, then post the findings here, thanks...

Many thanks...!!

Thanks for the replies guys...I'm going to take it to the dealer and see what they have to say NEXT week. I will be taking a log of what exactly happens to the car in specific situations. If you dont do this yet fro your mods I would also do that too...it is a great selling point when you sell your Lancer....thats if you do...

Please let me know if there is anything else I should do other than that...

do you think it will take longer than a day if I take it in?? If so ... they are good with the lending out cars right??

Thanks,
Ken

The tap when your wheel goes over a bump may simply be a loose brake caliper...once in a while a retaining pin comes out and one half of the caliper pops up and then whacks back down on the edge of the rotor. No big deal. Unless the other pin works its way out...then the caliper is loose and could cause you to have asymmetric braking...not great if you are braking hard in a turn. You can tell just by reaching through the spokes with a tool (any) and seeing if you can make the caliper wiggle off and on the rotor ("disc"). As for the crinkly noise at higher RPM's: Did you unwrap your car before you drove it? (no idea what that could be )
