Turbo Mod for AutoX

Hello guys! I was just looking for some opinions on which turbo system i should put on my car (Evo IX MR) for AutoX. This turbo mod will go in with ALL supporting mods! I would also like to hear why you think the turbo you are recommending is the best for this application. The ones i have been looking at is a full GT3076R turbo kit as well as a FP Green. I have also had some people recommend the FP Red but figured i would eliminate this turbo as the GT3076R will spool faster and make just as much or more power so. If you dont agree with this please say so as i might be under a misunderstanding. Thanks, Trever

you shouldn't be modding the turbo first for Autocross.

the first mod you do should be the DRIVER. go race, learn to drive, then when you're as fast as you can possibly be with the car the way it sits, mod the suspension and tires. unless you're building the car for an all out unlimited class, there's really no reason to touch the turbo yet. if you start messing with the turbo, you're going to get bumped into a class that you're not going to be anywhere near competitive in if you haven't touched the suspension/tires or driver mod.

exactly^ mods can be your enemy in autox, unless you got money to burn.As soon as you go into unlimited, get ready to lose and lose badly.Go take some driving courses and see if you can even win. here is a list of allowable stock settings/mods
- any exhaust AFTER the cat is allowed (90db noise restriction)
- any brake pad and rotor of STOCK SIZE is allowed.
- any alignment settings within the range of adjustment capable of the stock parts.
- any FRONT sway bar (or removal of) is allowed. all other must be stock.
- aftermarket shocks of STOCK SIZE AND TYPE are allowed. This allows adjustable shocks, but not edfc or the like.
- any tire that fits properly on STOCK SIZE AND OFFSET rim is allowed, and must be DOT approved
- any rim that is the SAME SIZE AND OFFSET as stock (+/- .25") is allowed.

Well i guess i should have also stated that i have heard a lot of "MOD THE DRIVER FIRST" and "Change the tires and suspension" and "If you change the turbo you will be put in some high class and you WILL loose!". I have heard all this multiple times and i completly understand what you are saying.

So now my response! I already took some racing lessons altho i could def get better and i do plan to! I also plan on changing tires AND suspension as well as brakes! And i dont care to be competitive! I just wanna have fun and race MYSELF! I want to try to beat MY time in WHATEVER class the mods i do to the car put me in.

So back to the original question! WHAT TURBO SYSTEM WOULD YOU THINK IS BEST FOR THIS APP! As i said it is not going to be a purpose built AutoX car. I kinda want a car that is good at AutoX but is also pretty quick on the street and strip! Altho the height of the build is AutoX.

AND LIKE I SAID I HAVE ALREADY HEARD THE INITIAL SUGGESTIONS PLENTY OF TIMES! Thanks for the advice tho!

So please answer the question at hand only! Thanks, Trever

Right now nothing. But if you look at some of my other threads you will see my list of potential mods. Im prolly gunna do the front, center, and rear diff as well as the tranny (yes the 6-speed with a CUSTOM gear set) and suspension first. Than move on and do the Exhaust, IC, and turbo (if i dont do a full turbo system i will also do the intake and header) as well as a set of cams (which i havent decided on yet either so any suggestions here would be great as well!). I also plan on doing the manifold and any thing else you guys think would be beneficial and cost effective!

Thanks for the spelling correction! I will correct that as soon as i am done here!

And yes i do know the other guys are right! But you have to completely under stand my wants and needs as well as my ability. I need a car a can drive to and from work (sometimes and i say this because i usually only drive it to work on Fridays and Saturdays and even thats rare!). I want a STREET car! And altho i KNOW i am NOT the best AT ALL i do have some experience with driving. With that said the most important thing to know is i am doing the mods for a STREET car and also to just have fun doing it (i am going to do all of the work my self for fun!). But i also want it to not be a turd on an AutoX track.

Thanks, Trever

I will take a look at the BBK thanks!

I don't think you understand. The only thing that'll make your car into a turd on the course is its driver. In SOLO II, the car is the least of it. That's what the other guys are trying to tell you. We've finished as high as 4th overall in a ~80whp GTI as a part of a very competitive field that included an older F1 car among a slew of prepped machinery. A turbo upgrade should be the least of your concerns. Look at tires first.

OMG i guess i am gunna just have to decide on my own! Can you just answer the question at hand and stop telling me i need practice and seat time! I already said i am modding the car for fun but in doing that i also want to increase its (the cars NOT mine!!!) autox ability!!!! I am also NOT looking to be competitive at all!!! I just wanna have fun modding the car (into a very fast STREET car that will also be alright on the AutoX track!!!!)

I KNOW I NEED EXPERIENCE AND SEAT TIME!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME THIS ANYMORE!!!!

Thanks, Trever

I did answer your question. Your followup illustrated a grossly misguided outlook as to the nature of the event. I didn't tell you that you needed practice and seat time, but I did try to point you toward some of the constraints relevant to the competition. Now I'm really glad I took the time.
